neil young gets a lot of flak for his supposedly wavery voice (i think?) but his pitch is fine really - he's just got that kind of whine that puts a lot of people off?

anyone who thinks neil young is anything less than fucking amazing is obviously mentally handicapped

Off the top of my head....

Tiny Vipers has a unique voice. I suppose it could be considered an "acquired taste" by some, but I love it. (She starts singing around 1:00)

When Goldfrapp's debut album "Felt Mountain" came out, I was blown away. The synth sounds in it are excellent too and it still gets more play than her later stuff in my collection.

Chris Cornell has a really great, dynamic voice in the modern rock arena.

I don't care what anyone says about The Carpenters, Karen had the most crystal clear and soothing voice I think I've ever heard and she was pretty great behind the kit.

The Carpenters - Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft [Klaatu cover] flol @ this video

Indian style vocals from the film "Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love" (great soundtrack if you like that style)

I second Neil Young. Anyone else into his Vocoder album "Trans"?

"Transformer Man"

"Sample and Hold"

Joshua James covers "Green Grass" by Tom Waits. He has kind of a smokey voice that is also emotional, though this song may not show his full range.

Here is an oddball... That 1 Guy "It's Raining Meat" love how gritty his voice is

Very into it, except I believe someone else sings most of the vocodor part. At least the high one. I'm too lazy to wiki my facts right now.

Wow, really?! I hadn't heard that! Wiki doesn't mention it but it does have a few other interesting notes... (though citations are missing)

Neil Young found that when using a vocoder when communicating to his son (who was born with cerebral palsy), he was able to elicit a better response.[citation needed] The emotional power of this experiment shows in the lyrics, particularly in the track "Transformer Man" with the lines "So many things still left to do / But we haven't made it yet."[original research?]

Neil would affectionately refer to the vocoder as "Sylvia" due to the feminine voice it would emit.[citation needed]
