the kitchen is so fucking impossible to stay on top of.... i spent saturday cleaning it and it's a dump right now. it's doubly hard with a wife that doesnt really put anything back that she gets out of the pantry or cabinets. when i cook i try to clean as i go, but all it takes is ONE slipup... maybe for lunch... you leave a soup pot on the stove... and then it's a rapid downard spiral from there.

Our house gets disgusting... What sucks is that I have 3 roommates. None of which like to take care of their own dishes. They just dirty them up an leave them on the stove, or stacked in the sink. I wash my dishes immediately after use and put them in the dry rack. What really sucks is when all the dishes are dirty and I'm forced to wash some dishes before I can start cooking my meal. WTF?! Fuck you!

Pics will be posted when I get home from work. Be prepared for both sinks to be full of dishes, with stuff on the counter and stove-top as well

Work in a kitchen, you learn to clean as you go pretty damn quick.

Also I'm going to edit this poll, because if I don't have a dishwasher, the two questions following that question should be Not Applicable.

through no fault of my own i've ended up in a large house with 7 other people and a cat. so the kitchen's always pretty filthy. i always keep on top of my own washing up which is more than i can say for some people - but life's too short to get uptight about it.

you're edging onto dangerous territory, but i feel your decision here is correct

(I just can't stand messiness , everything has to be clean and neat .. or i'll die of a heart attacks)

life's too short to get uptight about it.

i agree with both of these. i am a tortured soul

Piles of cluttered dishes are more intimidating to clean up than say one plate and a fork. Ideally I like to clean up after every meal but it doesn't always happen. My rule is I can't start a meal when there's still stuff to clean up from the last one. It's become habit now and either way it only takes a few seconds. Recycling and trash are next to the washer so I only have to go to one area to clean up.

If my kitchen or sink/dishwasher area smells like mold or nasty dishes it makes me lose my appetite.

i put dishes in the sink and then my mom yells at me because she wants me to put it directly in the dishwasher. i just hate opening the thing and inevitably moving wet, dirty dishes around to find room for mine.

Here's the sink, notice how both sides are completely full of dishes

Here's the rest of the counter and you can see the one dirty pot on the stove-top, it has water in it (I think, don't really know) WHY????

i don't have enough in the way of cutlery/dishes to let it get too dirty (i live on my own), so i usually just clean up before, during and after cooking. i've lived in some absolutely disgusting sharehouses though. including one in sydney where there was a gas leak in the kitchen and perpetual cockroaches in the dishwasher

I see you have a not quite empty bottle of wine with a cork shoved in. You should worry more about the fact that you are unable to polish off a bottle of vino.
