A Constant Source of Light

I'm just starting on an album and I've got a bit more of an idea on how I'd like it to sound overall, rather than just a bunch of individual tracks lumped together - using field recordings, my own samples, acoustic instruments etc, to hopefully make it a bit more personal. I've ben struggling a bit with the mixing though as there's a few layers of pads etc. Here's the first thing I've sorta finished anyway, any feedback much appreciated:

Love the percussion and the plucked sounds around 1:30 onwards and the warm piano sounds from 3 onwards. Nice pads as usual from you as well. Production wise it has a kinda Tycho thing going on. Nice and clean, warm and crisp.

I'm interested to hear your set up if you fancy sharing.

Thanks mate. The percussion is all my daughter's toy instruments which I sampled - I've uploaded them all if you want to use them for anything:

The rest is all done in Logic - I did read a useful article by Tycho though, on getting good tones - well worth a look. Basically I've been focussing on making each element sound as nice as possible in it's own right. I'm trying to make each instrument sound like it's being played in a room, so using loads of EQ, compression, reverb and amp simulation. It's tricky getting those warm pads in without muddying the mix but worth it I reckon, I've loved that sounds since BoC's 'Kid for Today'.

Yup, lush and nice pretty much sum it up :) I remember hearing your release from about a year ago or a little less and it had a great potential for a truly nostalgic sound but didn't reach it because it sounded a bit too plastic/midi. This I think is more close to greatness :) Good job!

Yeah, this is lovely. Influences are obvious but got it's own feel because of the production.

Just followed you man, look forward to more.

Cheers bud, appreciate that. I'm definitely leaning towards a more 'real' acoustic sound these days.
