  1. Yup, I work for a distributor for Warner in Slovenia and we got these Collinses last month. Shook my head as well. At least they made some sort of an effort to make these reissues a bit more interesting since most reissues are just the same cover.
  2. was gonna say, it dwelt on christian themes all the way through. I'm confused though, what exactly was B&W in this film? Well if I remember correctly, it even started with a monologue about people being either of nature or of grace. And the whole dynamics of the family were father-merciless/mother-merciful. And every event that occurred to the young boys had either a good meaning or bad meaning for them. I agree, the movie had human qualities and it struck a chord with me too, but I were to rationalise, this would be my perception of it
  3. It felt to me like a christian message all the way through. But I think the main problem of Tree Of Life is its self-absorbent innocence. People can't really connect with it because we have demons inside and know that the world isn't B&W, which this movie kind of is. Well, let's be fair, the whole movie is about letting go of a memory of a dead brother, but this is so heightened and made sacred that you can't really "get" it if you're not Terrence Malick. A very high-budget meditation on something very personal. Kind of ignorant if you ask me but it also had some really beautiful moments which kiiind of make up for it.
  4. Thy classic bedroom producer, I tried to squeeze everything into a panorama pic, otherwise shit's all over the room. Quite a simple setup in comparison with some of you hardware gods but I'm mostly digital
  5. I hated the ending in Side Effects. It is absolutely illogical. Spoilers ahead:
  6. Ichi the Killer - quite funny actually, it was so over the top I couldn't help myself chuckling a few times. am I a sick person? :(
  7. What We Do In The Shadows (second time viewing in 4 days). Hillarious! One of the best comedies of 2010's for sure, I deeply recommend it.
  8. Something is off in these series for me. Can't really put my finger on it... It is written, directed and acted extremely professional, I am convinced by the performances and shots and general pacing, but still. It's like they can't define the tone for the series - a good example is the scene in episode 3 where (minor spoilers ahead) he gets up in the middle of the night and drives to a telephone booth to scare-call that rich family. What was this scene trying to do to me? Music was made well but it also didn't know where exactly it was going - was it goofy? Menacing? It is like Breaking Bad lite - we have a character that will eventually "break bad" but not in such a extreme way. The irony is of course that Breaking Bad was also more funny than Saul. So we are left with a strangely unfunny series that knows it is following a much more bland lead character than Walt and still tries to make it work. Of course I don't want to compare the two too much but that's what you get with a spin-off. You know what? Yes, they SHOULD make the series all the way goofy. Cause now we are watching Saul or whatever his name is being depressed and that's just because writers didn't want to go too far from the original BB. They should go all the way in the other direction. Instead this is something in between.
  9. I predict there won't be a good multi-page lol roll in this thread just because it is so calling for it - if I learned something from WATMM it's that it's prone to swimming against the stream
  10. Frank, nice one, liked how it progressed very naturally while maintaining its quirkiness. I think a lot of musicians around here, including me, can find some similarity with at least one of the characters, especially with their faults. 8/10

    Now Reading

Great, write about your experience with it after you read it, I'm interested :) Personally I loved it, it is one of the most contemporary pieces I came across in recent times. Really pins down what it means to be an artist in the 21st century.
  12. The last one is A Field In England - I don't know the rest, sorry. And the muscles probably belong to Arnold?
  13. Nymphomaniac vol. 1 and 2 I like how both movies kept me watching even if most scenes were dialog-driven. The ending was a bit shady but expected since this was Von Trier. I really like how he became more controlled in his mature filmmaking. Still one of a kind - but I gotta give this a 7 out of 10. The ending was rushed and some chapters lacked the energy of others. Also some of the casting decisions were questionable, especially how they handled the transition between two different actors playing the same character in a younger/older state (and I'm not talking about the main character, but I don't want to spoil). Still warmly recommended.
