  1. Speaking of that card.. Finally got mine yesterday too. Any popular theories on what that card actually does? At first I thought it was going to be instructions on dowloading the digital copy.. but that is on another card. My boring theory is they pass these out if you pre-ordered at a local store (did they?).. but decided to include them in the packaging simply because they look cool and knew fans would want one even if they ordered online.
  2. Wow. On amazon: #4 overall #1 in 'dance' #2 in 'alternative rock' <-lol but still.. I'm willing to bet some record is broken with how many LPs were sold as well. I'm generally a cheap bastard and couldn't throw money fast enough at an expensive triple LP that I haven't even heard yet (at the time). I understand he is pretty damn popular.. but Christ. If he was surprised by the Caustic Window support, he must be reeling now. World <3 Aphex Twin.
  3. I'm finally listening to other things again. I binged so much on this album these last few days. I look forward to coming back to it in a couple weeks or so with a somewhat fresh pair of ears. weeee. edit: ok I might sneak in earth portal here and there when I need a jungle fix (I need those often)
  4. Just a little vent: STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED MY LP FROM BLEEP. Wasn't expecting to listen to this 173 times before I get the physical.. only 97 times.
  5. He's an idiot for saying shit like this. "If YOU can't hear the stuff missing from Syro, then you not only have shit in your ears, but you are devoid of any real emotion, and are running purely on the dullest of fanboy juice. " So check yourself before calling people childish. Seems like a fair thing to get defensive about, being told you have shit in your ears. That was in direct response to someone who made the insult first, and you know it. You insulting me for insulting someone is amusing. Anyway, back to it; for a forum devoted to Aphex, there is surprisingly little detailed review or opinion by people who like Syro. I will refrain from telling you all why I think that is, and will just sit here waiting for people to start explaining in emotive detail what they love about it. You might like reading the threads dedicated to individual songs on the album then. People are going into a lot of detail about why they like each track. Literally down to 'minute to minute' evaluations.
  6. If I could describe Syro (in comparison to earlier releases) I would say its Aphex's all-around "fun happy and playful" album'. Does it shake me to the core? No (well xmas eve resonates quite a bit on that "deeper" level for me.) But its just really "fun" not to mention fucking cool and interesting. In comparison to his other Aphex Twin albums I find that pretty different actually. It doesn't make me reevaluate my understanding of music or my own life, it makes me bob my head and smile at all the cool things happening in the composition. Its refreshing actually. Its like Aphex-Light®. Not a knock at all. He always goes incredibly deep and sometimes dark. This is practically happy-go-lucky in comparison. And for that it REALLY stands out.
  7. *from a comic book fan friend of mine* The writer for many batman comics tweeted the following: 'drafting the the 'insert batman comicbook name here' while listing to Syro. Love it. Don't be surprised if Gotham gets a little more 4 bit 9d api+e+6
  8. Thank you again for releasing the album :) brian is not the anal chosen one He said soooomething earlier that made me wonder. But you are probably right.
  9. Thank you again for releasing the album :)
  10. lol. that would make a lot of sense then.
  11. Checked out Pitchfork today? It is Syro'd out. Huge ads for it all over the place, plus the featured articles. Not sure if I've seen such a complete takeover of one artist on there before.
  12. Youre're' right! You still took him to task though. Thoroughly enjoyable read. After I posted my little response to his "review" I realized I was way to nice. The guy is ridiculously bitter. He was just being reactionary to some of us praising an album he doesn't like and then needlessly infers die-hard fans are low lives??? Yeah.. Great review.
  13. That is some willpower right there. I caved approximately one minute after news of the leak. but sort of glad I did. STILL haven't received the LP :( And there are a ton of copies at the record store less than a mile away. Sorry bleep.. might not go down that road again.
  14. The first 5 seconds of the Japan bonus track sort of resemble dry farts. Maybe that was his way of saying "this is what it actually sounds like, before I get a hold of it"
  15. Way to dig deep for that "posting in our underwear" line, as if that weren't the go-to insult for every would-be internet iconoclast since before this board was a chartreuse twinkle in Joyrex's eye. At least you elevated us out of our moms' basements! Pretty soon we'll have the socioeconomic prestige of a white dude teaching English in another country. seconded. and when you say 'So don’t make it more' your 'just a review' is painfully defensive and literally resorts to name calling.. but other than that I didn't mind your thoughts on the matter. I would just actually own your opinion and leave out all the "you pathetic apt. renting nerds are going to hate me for this buuuuut.." stuff.
  16. Its a good read actually. I agree with a lot of your points but still overall really enjoy the album.. (like the lack of repetition in the melodies, It does keep me coming back for more for example and I think he does it well) The only part I take issue with is the bit about obsessed forum people posting in their underwear in their rented apartments (oh my! low blow!). I'm usually fully nude and I own my place. In fact, I make sure to strip bare before posting anything here.
  17. I'm not going to listen as I haven't heard the rest of the album yet but how the hell did you get this already? I haven't even had a dispatch email from Amazon jp yet I'm jasondonervan. lol. and that's all we need to know. I am addicted to this song today. Can't wait to somehow get the real deal.
  18. Damn man. You always bring the goods. I want to set up some alarm everytime you post or something. Thanks AGAIN. Really loving this tune too.
  19. yes, you read the guardian, i do as well. Yep. I assume 90% of us read the article. I simply changed the color/contrast and put a logo.. then made it my avatar. I get that your avatar looks like RDJ. stop trying to be clever and just put a pic of yourself.
  20. Hey pro tip (jk, I write off anyone that says that) but I slotted in Last Rushup 10 in for 180db for the heck of it. Really cohesive to my ears (all the vocoder stuff, the eerieness in the beginning and the beat is a bit more complex, like a warm up to the rest of the album) 180db is the only track I skip so figured why not.
  21. Unfortunately the first thing I thought of when I read he wants to incorporate his kids more in making music.. One of those horrid 70s family bands. (ps this came out WAY creepier than intended.)
  22. 'Earth Portal' is ridiculously good. Its up there with Meltphase 6 in the 'aphex magic + fluid complexity adrenaline rush' department. It even sounds pretty damn fresh to me even with the well established breaks.
  23. The first half of this is perfect for a lazy Saturday morning (pre coffee). Second half is for when I've had my coffee and let the adrenaline run its course, paying strict attention. wooo
  24. I sure as hell wrote a gush.. but we are inside a forum dedicated to the artist right? Art is supposed to make you feel something and this man's art does that for many of us. And as corny as it sounds, his music probably did 'change our lives' as you mockingly pointed out <- also as 'the messiah' said, he is purposely designing frequencies to change people apparently.. well it worked. And that you are here posting, this guys art changed your life too.. (I'm drunk, its friday)
