  1. I really wonder what Aphex would do with the current standar electronic music set up. Ya know, logic, huge banks of samples, the massive softsynth, with all the other popular plug-ins... but now in the hands of Richard. Pretty sure my mind would explode. He has sort of made things hard for himself with all the hardware (very respectable and has obvious benefits) But him working with something "easy" I imagine the most beautifully complex thing imaginable popping out.
  2. After all these years I just realized Cock / Ver10 is awesome. For whatever reason I skipped that one consistently. Oh and syro is great <- see! still related to the thread!
  3. I imagine XMAS EVE to be Richard in full on sentimental mode. Sonically it covers so many of his warmest sounds. His family is sampled on it, not to sounds funny and strange, but innocent and beautiful. And I'm assuming he made this near the holidays (of course). It's definitely the easiest track to put an obvious context too. I listen to it in this way, and I think it makes it even more gratifying. Saying that, I loved it when it was called METZ as well and had no clue what it was "about". Its just great to me.
  4. By far the best college radio station I've ever heard. Its almost unfair to call it a "college radio station". Electric Kingdom is still alive and well.. really cool. You know it's a great station when they have a 2 hour special on the Glasglow electronic scene. (Rustie, Hudson Mohawk etc.) Regardless of your opinion on rustie and whatnot, pretty amazing they dedictate air time to it. And really know what they are talking about.
  5. The radiostation WVUM (Miami) is playing so much Syro, I love it. And not just good ol' minipops. They played XMAS EVE this morning and the dj talked a lot about the album...Its still a little surreal to me. Imagine thinking of this possibility a year ago? It would sound like such a pipe dream. METZ.. in its entirety on the radio.. a lot... oh and everyone and your grandma loves it.. and bought it. GTFO
  6. That was truly surreal. Anyone that thinks aphex went "soft" with Syro should never see this vid. They will feel too validated.
  7. "Valerie, I have the same thing. once a day for the imposition scroll" ok I sometimes put Rushup Edge in with the Syro tracks and put on shuffle. What a damn good collection of tracks these all are. Doesn't feel jarring at all. Could listen to it probably all day. (I took out 180db )
  8. I notice I listen to Syro once a day at work (web developer) and not out of fan obligation or anything. I actually just look forward to the Syro journey one hour a day. That has truly never happened with an Aphex album for me. I usually just obsess over certain mind blowing songs. Taken as a whole it's such an enjoyable ride.
  9. soo.. XMAS EVE aye?.. Good song.. . . . . . . .
  10. pretty interesting and gushy article. http://www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2014/10/06/nick-richardson/aphex-twins-genius/
  11. Uhhg. When you google 'aphex twin' the first thing that comes up are these asinine articles about his comments on the Illuminati and 9-11. I feel almost defensive about this and makes my fanboyism flare up. They are painting him as an idiot for click-bait. At the end of the day I think Aphex is pretty sensitive actually (reading between the lines). I don't want him getting pissed and saying fuck the public again (= music drought). /end paranoia
  12. That's exactly what I did. I felt proud of myself.. No sticker wasted! And man, I like the idea of the cover but it's in desperate need of a bit of color so that did the trick. Still don't know what to do with the big one. hrrmmm.
  13. Can we add a 'thou shalt not hype unnecessarily' to the rules? I feel it's implied anyway but still... hehe. Too bad he also mentioned that there's a chance it won't be a thing, whatever it is. A few emails the other day bolstered my resolve that this will most likely happen, so stay tuned! Still in the planning stages, so sorry I can't share anything at the moment. Hopefully I'll have something to say by Monday - who knows though. All I can say is yay! (I'll continue to speculate but in my own head for now.. I think we have pretty much covered all possibilities 100x over) *cough archives...*
  14. 5 years is ok tho imo. 5 is fair
  15. Calm before the storm it seems... Joyrex being very quiet (hopefully because of something cool) I just hope this calm isn't for 7+ years.
  16. After many sort of intense full attention listens, today was the first time I listened to it as pretty much background (still on headphones) while I worked. Really works like that too. It made what I was working on feel like a journey. This really is an 'album' more than I think any of his other albums... all of them I say.
  17. Believe it or not, when Drukqs came out a lot of ppl felt pretty deflated. I remember loving the fast stuff, reallly not liking the slow stuff. (I was young and now eat my words ;) It wasn't treated like it is today, even by huge fans.
  18. Joyrex... Maybe you could post the news with a disclaimer in front. Something like "THIS MAY NEVER HAPPEN, IN FACT WHAT I AM ABOUT TO SAY IS A COMPLETE FIGMENT OF MY IMAGINATION buuuuut wouldn't it be neat if... (covertly insert huge news here).
  19. I was thinking the same thing in regards to the 4 known tracks. I wish that was somehow my first time hearing them. Even listening to minipops officially before the album sort of disrupted it for my obsessed self. I look forward to hearing this in a few years where alllll of that has passed and its just another aphex album in the collection.
  20. IMO most aphex releases are like a blowjob from your lover, but in comparison syro is a blowjob from this really hot chick that means nothing to you but still does it good. Maybe it's because she didn't give you a blowjob for 13 years, you forgot who she was and didn't see how she evolved. Impossible for me to analyze this record, all I know is it's playing almost non stop at home. I'm not sure.. but I'm preeeetty sure XMAS EVE will be one of those classics (in the Flim, Alberto Balsalm kind of way.)
  21. The vinyl holes are just the right size on mine.. (Tries to avoid obvious jokes involving tight holes)
  22. Street fighter 4 (music muted) + syro = a fantastic Saturday morning. (Just realized both are sort of "products of the 90s" yet new) no wonder I felt like a happy 14 year old this morning)
  23. 6/10 is not even remotely funny. it cannot be less that 8 or 9 basically, cause it's so good. fucking noobs that listening to bad quality mp3s... I think all of my favourite albums would still sound great at 64 kbit/s, so that's not a valid argument. It is a bit telling as well that there's so much talking about the sound quality of this album. It may be great, I cannot really tell even though my setup is not that bad, but I don't really care about that. There's fantastic emotional depth on SAW or ICBYD and it doesn't really matter what quality the files, (physical) record or audio setup is. I'm not saying that Syro doesn't work at lower quality, but as I said, there seems to be a lot talk about the sound quality and mastering per se, compared to other albums. Definitely agree about an unusual amount of chatter about the mastering etc. I think part of the reason its mentioned so much is because its refreshingly 'uncompressed' sounding compared to sooooo much electronic music now. Its not in-your-face loud at every moment and has a lot of breathing room. If most albums were mastered this way I don't think it would be in the discussion so much.
