  1. response from norman records: "we got an official promo of Oversteps. It's digitally watermarked"

i guess it's a little late for anybody to still be doubting the leak's authenticity but i thought i'd post that anyways

So in the leak(s) is there any distinguishing features that show that it's been watermarked in any way ? I know they said the same thing about one of their other albums but didn't that turn out to be bum ?

  2. I guess you missed this:

"...Autechre hit the studio ready for a change. “We came back and didn’t want to do any tracks with beats for a bit,” explains Booth..."

Oops, I sure did. My bad!

    And this has me intrigued...

"Sean Booth spoke to Big Shot about ... fan communities..."

From Mosca's interview with him a while back I seemed to remember that he was asked about here (and fan communities in general) and I think the consensus was that he thinks we're generally twats, the 71 pages here suggest he may be right ....

  3. He's streaming the whole album from his site. Varius may have already posted this link but mcbpete might have mistakenly removed it for fear of it being unofficial (I'm only guessing).

Yeah apologies for that I thought someone had cheekily set up a fake account, I've returned the link ....

I've just listened to the stream, it's pretty good but nothing really made it stand out for me. It was just the normal Four Tet fare of pretty twinkles and not particularly complex drum patterns - I dunno I just feel there needs to be just a little more going on, a little bit more intensity to the tracks maybe.

The pure depths and serial surfaces played, placed and projected during their truly astonishing new collection Oversteps (WarpCD210) certainly reminds me of their earlier music, repeats/reforms some ideas, echoes specific loops, absences and grains, reprises calculations, develops various moods, connects similar stresses and symptoms, perfects certain systems, but at the same time bravely invents new possibilities, resist bad habits, penetrates new uncontaminated areas, and demonstrates that

    WTF?!

so he has a promo yet?

Sounds more like he guessed as to what it might sound like - He's pretty much just said it got some bits that sound like some older ideas, and bits that sound like newer ideas. Pretty much describes every album by anyone ....

  5. I bought the special edition quaristice, the fuckers spilled hot glue all over the second CD

    That wasn't glue .....

Anyways, preordered the vinyl - It's gonna go well quick innit.

For those moaning it's too expensive - 1. There's a cheap CD version, 2. It's a luxury deluxe edition it's gonna be a luxury price, 3. You should see what the prices will be on ebay in a few months when it's sold out, they'll be too expensive ...

  6. mostly just stories involving very diva like behavior and burning bridges within the experimental community. i don't want to mention any names because even world wide the scene is still very small. One particular story i remember was described to me by a friend of a drone label owner who put out a very costly H30 special edition, apparently he got into debt because of the expense of this h30 project, he was so dedicated to it seeing the light of day that he refinanced his home to get extra immediate funds. When it finally came out (after some understabdle delays) Mckenzie started posting messages to several online mailing lists telling people not to buy this release because it didn't come out exactly how he wanted. It was a big enough deal that i think it soured a lot of people in the scene on working with him. I trust the sources implicitly that i heard this from.

Didn't he also burn his bridges with [i think] Phonometrography by putting out an advert urging people not to buy from them as they released his stuff in sub-quality packaging. It was a while ago so my memory may be a little off...

  7. Isn't Andrew McKenzie dying or something?

He's got Hepatitis B apparently (I say apparently as you cant never truly believe the true king of misinformation !).

I have the Exactly As I Am/Say/Do trilogy (including that version that came in a big box with salmon skin), A Thirsty Fish, Mastery of Money, Kill The King, A Pressed on Sandwich, Intoutof, Bang An Open letter, and the two collaborations with Autechre. And yet (and yet), I still have no idea whether I like The Hafler Trio or not

  8. Actually I'm really surprised they haven't done any vinyl releases of their stuff. It seems the perfect medium for it, or even tape (hell I'm shocked they haven't gone the whole hog and released their catalogue on eight-track)

My favourite GB releases are The Advisory Circle - Other Channels and Belbury Poly - The Willows.

  9. thats the majority of the book. father and son talking the same dioage after each other. i dont think i can finish this book if its like this any more.

Unfortunately it is. I found in a real struggle to get through (especially as I've only read like 10 books in my life) - they trundle about a bit and get hungry, find some place with food then trundle about a bit more (rinse, repeat)
