there's this homeless guy who comes by the store (synth shop) once in a while. he's young.. maybe 30. has mental issues. rambles. doesn't make a lot of sense. he wants to play everything and i think he thinks he's in some kind of venue performing making beats. he's said things about "wanting to do more" and various things about making beats and jamming. we'll let him in once in a while depending on his physical/mental condition. he came by just after i opened today and i told him "not to day" and made him leave. i feel guilty about it but didn't want to deal w/him and he was a mess. but it felt really cruel and i fucking hate having to deal w/that kind of situation. now i'm listening to Broadcast and checking emails.

i slogged through mona lisa overdrive as well.. so dated feeling for me.. and this was years ago. his modern spy stuff sorta bored me too. wasn't too into it.. but i loved some of his other stuff "the Peripheral" is one i liked a lot. more recent and weird and still fun. i need to re-read "pattern Recognition". enjoyed that one and it made me feel really weird. jetlagged or something. i don't know. i haven't reread the Pale King. i have mixed feelings about that one. reread everything else by DFW though. Nicola Barker's Darkmans was really good but not really like DFW.. very different but seemed like there was something similar feeling there. can't put my finger on it but i liked it a lot. for pure smarts and density and craft and fun and big ideas... Neal Stephenson is always good. absorbing. but for DFW type american post modern or whatever the fuck people call it.. i don't know. people say Eggers but i read heartbreaking work of blah blah blah and after a while it's just a rant that loses its edge and i became un interested and not dazzled by the pace of it or the capturing of that moment etc and was more annoyed than i was pleased. that book is the literary equivalent of whiskey dick. Don DeLillo is good. Whitenoise might fit for a chunk of americana modern edge but more washed out or bleached. the problems in the book seem related to DFW material to me. i've like all the DeLillo stuff i've read. some of Paul Auster's stuff i really like. Moon Palace is particulary good if memory serves. i should re-read that one. currently i'm reading Jerusalem by Alan Moore. only about 70ish pages into it but i like it. it's weird, the characters are good and once i got into his flow story telling and detail i find it sticking to me.

Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

It’s fucked. One of the things that insiders were/are reportedly worried about is drumpf stumbling into a war with Russia which is weird if little Donnie is a Russian stooge but not impossible to happen. I worry Donnie will try to save face in some way and do something really dumb with all sorts of unintended consequences. Domestically and internationally this administration has already created numerous messses that will take a long time to sort out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 22,233 replies

Now That Trump's President... (not any more!)

there's a couple people so far rumored to challenge the president for the nomination. it's rare that a sitting president gets challenged by his own party but i wouldn't be surprised if he has a primary challenger. this hypothetical republican challenger would have to run as an independent candidate, no? i cant see any scenario where the republican party would back anyone who could reduce their chance of retaining power. on the fipside, i hope that any democrat leaning towards running independent will have the sense enough to stay out of the way of splitting the vote. despite the feeling of a crowded dem field, policy wise theyre pretty similar, and there are lots of good options. and the centrist bloomberg types overlap enough that theyre not about to split into a new party imo. in the primary a challenger could run as republican and challenge the president for the nomination if/when the challenger loses he/she could run as independent but it's really unlikely. if anyone runs as an independent and splits a vote it'll really depend on who the candidate is as to which candidate that effects most- 22,233 replies

nope there's a couple people so far rumored to challenge the president for the nomination. it's rare that a sitting president gets challenged by his own party but i wouldn't be surprised if he has a primary challenger. almost guaranteed to happen. dunno if it'll be a legit threat to Trump, however. if it makes his campaign spend some of the cash on hand and the challenger spends time dirtying up trump or forcing him to respond and say dumb shit then it might be ok... but also if there's no challenger then all the dems will get way more news coverage w/o trump dominating headlines.- 22,233 replies

At times booker is good but he’s come down on the wrong side of things before and often grandstands a bit heavily. I think he’s pretty good still. He’s quite in the center on a lot of things which is t necessarily bad. None of these people are perfect or right 100% of the time and anyone thinking any of these people are going to be big game changers are probably mistaken. That being said, it will easy to improve on trump and hopefully swing the pendulum back the other way a bit. I don’t really have to be sold on any of them. The primaries will be split in different places. Whoever comes out on top is going to get the “anyone but trump” votes hopefully. If it’s not Bernie then I hope all his supporters can get their heads out of their asses and help vote trump out of office. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 22,233 replies

Rand Paul being a libertarian fuckwad means he lands in unexpected places sometimes. It sounded like Bernie Sanders didn’t think the early version of the magnitsky act went far enough and it actually normalized trade with Russia? Obama administration flip flopped on that version according to that article. I guess we’ll see. 2020 is only a fartbeat away. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 22,233 replies

didn't know anything about that. or if i did it didn't register. i hope someone asks him why he didn't vote for the magnitsky act. seems a no brainer to vote yes on it. I might not be understanding what happened with him and the Magnitsky Act correctly, upon further reading. But the other stuff is eyebrow raising. Him an Rand Paul(!) were the only two to vote no on some of those bills. I guess what concerns me is that in 2016, he was basically controlled opposition whether he realized it or not. If he loses in the primary, we're going to have a lot of emotional college students writing his name on the ballot again. There will be tons of people who will think a slightly less progressive candidate is automatically a corporate shill. As long as a sane Dem gets in and we remain informed and politically active, we'll be fine. It'll be a lot easier to make these magical progressive things happen when we aren't being held hostage by a rogue political party.(GOP) A lot more people are prepared to hold their noses while voting for anyone but trump. Hopefully those few key places where trump edged out Hillary are up for grabs. But seeing as how the cyber dept within Homeland security that deals with foreign intervention is basically gutted who knows how far Russia will get this time with their meddling. Hopefully more people register to vote than get disenfranchised by 2020. Trump will have his core base but hopefully not enough of anything else. He’s already raising lots of cash though. Then there’s the Mueller factor... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk- 22,233 replies

So you can "plan" a national emergency like a conference call or something? you can take 2 years planning it instead of negotiating it and also turn down various deals that would have avoided along the way- 22,233 replies
