  1. Interesting explanation of LLMs by Karpaty. I expect non-computer scientists to be able to understand a lot of what he is trying to explain. He speaks in a very computer science kind of way, but is still accessible, imo.
Roughly 42 minutes in, he talks about what he expects is possible in a few years. He lists a bunch of things that LLMs would be able to do. In short, think of the movie “Her”. LLMs will be able to communicate with each other. Singularity, here we come!

he knows what he's doing, for sure. it's pure carny smarts. he's a sociopathic narcissist that has been manipulating people to his advantage for decades. he uses the same schtick over and over again. incredibly, there are people that can't see this. or they see it and don't care, because many of them are the same way as him, albeit to a lesser degree. the number of people I've heard defending him because "he's a businessman" is insane. him being president is a massive con. probably the biggest con in modern history.

I think it’s better to watch out for the us vs them rhetoric. Thats close to half of the people who vote you’re talking about.

People voting for him probably think government/ the establishment/ politicians are a massive con. Trump is the lesser evil. You’d be better off asking how big of a con they think all the other stuff is compared to Trump. They have less trust in government/the establishment/ politicians. At least Trump talks like they do.

The next video gives a good explanation of why people support populists like him

also crazy that so many people are unaware of this language he uses and why it's alarming/important.  it just sails right over them or triggers them in a warm and fuzzy way to make them like him more. they want to be angry at something and he gives that to them.

It's more cynical, I think. He uses that language because he knows it energizes his base. He's doing exactly what he needs to do to get those people to turn up and vote for him in the election. His biggest issue might be potential trump voters not voting.

I really think he's more shrewd than people give him credit for. Shrewd in the most cynical sense of the word.

  4. Yeah, appreciated this ^^^

Appreciate the attempt to explain a complex situation. It’s frustrating the political reality seems in the way of solving it though. But that’s what happens when people are resentful and have little or no trust in government/politics/ authorities/ people with opposing views , I’m afraid.

  5. I liked Karma. But this one hasn’t caught my interest yet. The production is brilliant. But musically.. there’s just not enough to my ears. Most of the time I catch myself thinking: “ yeah nice, but where are you going with this?” And then the track seems to go nowhere in particular. So it becomes a collection of beautifully crafted ideas that go nowhere. These are first impressions. It will take an effort to get to the point where i will “get it”. I’m not feeling what you are feeling… 😞

ugh...I've had a few irl encounters with trump supporters lately. one was a very well educated guy I've known a long time, who fell down the right wing rabbit hole years back. don't know how it came up (we were drinking, always the best time to discuss politics lol) and I saw the "switch" in his personality as soon as the election and all that shit came up. the aggressiveness came out big time. not willing to listen to any points I made. his logic fell apart when trying to defend that stuff, but he kept repeating stuff over and over. like robotic scary. I finally had to go down the path of least resistance - fuck all this politics shit, I love you maaaan - in order to get back to some state of calmness.

another dude was a bar denizen who came up to a table I was at with friends. he made some comment about one of my friends having hair like trump (my friends hair was salt and pepper grey, longish, but nothing like big T's classic combover) and then it all starts getting into politics. the bar dude just kept repeating over and over "he's my guy. don't care what anyone says, trump's my guy." this dude was definitely looking to fight if we wanted that, which we didn't. dealing with dipshits like this...it's almost like being a parent who is forced to placate an upset toddler so they don't continue to throw shit around the room.

Maga-ism is 100% a cult. this is what happens to people in cults. they may act normal for the most part, then boom, some trigger hits, some synapses in their brain start misfiring. they no longer are accepting of logic. I know most of us know this by now, see it day in day out online. but dealing with people like this irl is a reminder that brainwashing is real.

you and your buddies kept your cool! well done. not being triggered is like a victory

2022 Helsinki was my third Autechre in-person live gig, and I've been a fan for 30 years, but I think it's starting to fade in a very similar way - but for different reasons - my RDJ fandom began to shrivel not long after Analord. I do love Autechre and they've been the longest constant in my extrapersonal music life; SIGN and PLUS are amazing and brought their more contemporary output back to focus for me, but I have so much other music in my life that I can't be arsed to listen to things that require way too much repetition for me to acclimate to. Don't get me wrong, I (mostly) prefer musical complexity over naivete (which minimalism is not), but I've never liked pseudorandom rhythmic noise. I'm glad that there are people who do.

This worries me a bit because the last time I went to AE-gigs (around 2005) those experiences helped me appreciate their then-current music more. Untilted is one of those albums. Listening to Untilted at home initially, I thought it was a bit dry. It was AE going techno. But after seeing them live, I started to appreciate it more. In a live setting, it has a different impact. The context changes the music.

But reading your experiences, I wonder whether I'll be able to appreciate these live sets more. Because I kind of agree with you. These sets don't click with me. There are some bits and pieces I can enjoy, but only for a short amount of time. After a while, the music starts to become obnoxious and annoying. It's very demanding without a reward. And I simply have to skip. And if having listened to them live doesn't help, I don't know what will.

  8. I was assuming it was a copy paste from some pro trump reddit. Could be me living under a rock, but he usually doesn’t post like this right? Such a mindf#ck. Am I in, or not? Summon.exe, was it reddit, chatgpt or having fun role playing?

i don't want to mix in this, but since you provided the north / south korea example, can one really make an arbitrary comparison between the two? i mean in terms one being a market-driven economy, the other is basically a despotic dictatorship? i try to understand why these comparisons tend to surface in these debates, since they don't offer a very clear examples of employment of respective systems that can be pitted against each other?

Basically the idea is that communism tends to evolve into what you see in North Korea. Or put differently, you have various kinds of power structures for societies. And where there are power structures, there's also corruption of power. Or rather, the tendency to move into corrupt directions, if unchecked.

In the case of North Korea you see an example where communism devolves towards. On the opposite side you could put the US. Whether or not they're equally corrupt is up for you to decide.

But the comparison between both North and South Korea should be an obvious one, imo. The starting point was the same. The ending point...well yeah.
