I've done a little playlist with the Barcelona tracks & ambient mix of bblr on the end of the e.p....so now got a nearly 30 mins e.p!

I know Barcelona ones a bit of diff vibe but works pretty well & hadn't listened to the ambient version for little while & forgot how awesome it was!

Yes! Also added the neotek track he put up on Sc this week. Fits in well ?

Cirklon is a sequencer. Maybe it's a rebuilt version since there are tons of refubrished ABB3-5 grooves scattered across recent gigs

    like this one

On a sidenote: I would be very happy if his records released on Rephlex were available (digital format) in his bleep store. Probably some legal sh$t why that's difficult. But I can still hope...

whatever we consider the current Western way of life, it will end or drastically change within our or our children's lifetimes.

We have to change our ways regardless though. And that could also be for the better, right? In the sense that we need to be more conscious of our global impact and act accordingly. Or sustainable, if you will.

Personally, I'm switching between the doom-scenario (we're too late to save the ship) and the bumpy ride scenario (ship keeps going through rougher waters). Depending on the last information. And whatever the reality, it doesn't make sense to panic or outrage or worry or become too emotional and do silly stuff. Just be more conscious as an individual. With all the imperfections that come with it. And help getting the ship in the right direction where possible. Hoping others will join. And if they don't, I might be wrong. Because I don't have all the answers. Nobody has. Even the captain on the ship.

Spiritually, I guess I'm more a bumpy ride person. Go with the flow. (even if I could believe we're doomed)

  4. Out of curiosity: lets say we (humanity) are on the Titanic. What is the situation we’re in?

    1. Would you say we’ve already hit the iceberg and this boat is going to sink? It’s only a matter of time and how fast. (We’re already doomed scenario)
    2. Or would you say we’re still able to steer away from the iceberg and minimize the damage in the event we can’t completely avoid it? And keep the whole thing afloat (We can still save ourselves from potential doom scenario)
    3. Or, we’ve hit a bunch of icebergs already, but the hull is still fine. We might hit a bunch more, but the boat is strong enough. It’s just going to be a bumpy ride. (The boat wont sink. There are just difficult times ahead. scenario)

    4. Shut up. I’m on the sundeck getting some color. It’s beautiful outside. Enjoy the weather! (Nothing going on scenario)

Maybe a poll would be better. I’m curious where everyone is on this. And bonus question: where would you put the public opinion?

Was reading up on the elections in Spain and Italy. And why the political campaigns of the various parties in both countries avoided climate change as a topic. Despite the local reality of extreme heatwaves, the general public in both countries dont seem interested in national policies to improve sustainability. In both countries it was political suicide to campaign on green policies. At least, that is what was supposed to be going on in those countries.

So silly this waiting til release date thing. Just let people buy it if they find it in a record store wtf!

Hey, weren't you complaining about this EP earlier? What was it...not enough tracks...you didn't like the prereleased track. I dunno man...you should shush! ?

I'm actually glad this topic got bumped, because I have this friend...

    Long story short...
    Ok, timeout. Thoughts?

It's either what you think: he has told himself a story that he's <insert mental something> and now he acts it out (as a self fulfilling prophecy). Or there might be something more serious. I'm thinking about the early onset of some neurodegenerative disease where peoples personality can change. Who knows.

But generally speaking, I do believe people can get carried away with the stories they tell themselves about who they are. Or, more awkward, people with a bad lifestyle (eating habits, lack of exercise, too much social media, lack of social interactions) can show all sorts of weird behaviour. I dunno. But I do wonder from time to time. As everybody seems to be neurodivergent nowadays. It's the new normal. Bizarro world.

    Spoiler

    relevant?

  7. I think I've mentioned this before, but in these sorts of discussions I'm always reminded of my dad and his stamp collection. He built a considerable collection his entire life. Only to find out it is all close to worthless nowadays. (he is old now and actively thinking about what should happen with his collection when he's gone...) There used to be a huge stamp collection community creating value, but nowadays that community is practically gone. It has become useless paper. Regardless of limited editions and what not.

Like others mentioned already, the value of items is "made up" by people. And when people don't care - or stop caring - those items become garbage. No matter how special it was originally. This is also why I have a hard time taking collectors seriously, tbh. I mean, why? You can't eat it. Generally speaking, a special/rare album is not as unique as a painting by Van Gogh is, for example. (The item itself doesn't belong in a history book like a painting does, if you know what I mean.)

    https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/scicurious-brain/ignobel-prize-in-neuroscience-the-dead-salmon-study/

TLDR: a dead salmon was used while setting up a new brain scanner. Regular protocols were followed and when the numbers for these were crunched, it turned out that they were forced to conclude the measurements indicated the salmon was alive and well and exhibiting brain patterns more befitting a live human.

The statistics behind a lot of neuroscience is apparently very, very shakey.

In my “machine learning” class I was taught the 1950s work was on creating functions that could output curves of any desired complexity. In theory one input function and one output function was all that was needed, but they figured out the math was a quite a bit easier if you used multiple layers of functions.

So it’s basically just math. Really simple math, too, but because actually calculating what the functions should be requires a lot of computing power it wasn’t until 10 - 20 years ago that using it became feasible.

There is no link with what happens in the brain whatsoever - unless you want to insist that any process in which outputs from one thing become inputs in another is like a brain, in which case, well, you’re grossly oversimplifying things.

artificial neurons in neural networks are simple models of real neurons. so there is a link! and sure, they're models. models are a simplification, by definition.

but as in physics (or name any other science), models do have a link with the real thing. (if they're good models) and talking about physics, in that corner of science it's not a far fetched idea to reduce everything to differential equations. yes, everything is input and output.

and sure our brains are much more complex. but current developments show it might be a matter of time until artificial neural networks will become equally complex. despite fundamental differences to biological neural networks, the artificial networks might become functionally equivalents.

similar to how digital information like a music file is equivalent to its analog counter part. most people can't tell the difference, despite the quantisation of the original analog signal. it's practically the same.

admittedly, my memory is pretty hazy, but i'm pretty sure the london and manc digitals landed on the aphex store months after people got the vinyl. for a while we were listening to a rip of soundlab, and of course most of the other tunes across those two releases had already existed as bonus store tunes.

yeah, this is how I member it as well. took a while before these landed in the store. although that latest took the shortest. the houston one was the first gig-ep, i believe. that took a while. according to discogs a couple of years (https://www.discogs.com/master/1523549-AFX-Houston-TX-121716).

but all the others ones were put up in the store in 2019 as well:

    https://www.discogs.com/master/1212065-AFX-London-030617

    https://www.discogs.com/master/1659049-Aphex-Twin-Manchester-20092019

    https://www.discogs.com/master/1658714-Aphex-Twin-London-14092019

So the final two were pretty quick...

  10. There's plenty material for a new album, it seems. I'd be surprised if there isn't an entire album in the pipeline. Or there's going to be a bunch more ep's after wapp483 (or whatever the highest cat number was)

looks like that wagner dude is putting his money where his mouth is and heading towards moscow.

it looks like his hand was forced by putin. wagner dude went after the head of military first. then putin decided to go after wagrner dude. so whattayagonnado? might be the beginning of the end of putin. and good riddance. (not that things will get any better after putin is gone...)

    Sorry. No embeds activated

Nice track! And the track which it automatically played after - in my case a track by Bean "Skin" - might be different for the rest of you - is good as well. Fits in nicely with new afx tune. For a moment I assumed the other track of the new afx ep was uploaded as well. But it's a different artist altogether. There's so much good stuff out there...jeez. That bean track was from 2017. That's old.

    /fear of missing out
