  1. Also, I really wonder if he'll be digging more into trackers like renoise (I know he's got it because he's got his kids set up using it) or something else when it comes to the Casio track I mentioned above, although it's probably hard for him to get in that computer mindset when he's surrounded by all those studios and old samplers and fancy cirklon sequencers. Hoping he'll come out with something more sample-heavy at some point, either way.

    /baseless speculation

this album must have been made with a tracker. who knows really. i think there is real analog in there, but its so full of random samples. Has a full sound but trackery. We need a drukqs interview

I've thought a good deal about this. I believe drukqs is made primarily with glitched out audio. It feels kind of obvious. However because he chose to glitch things out, the album sounds quite 'wild' especially the fast tracks.

Whereas with Syro, it's obvious he spent a lot more time with the midi and automating things. The album also has a much calmer feel, and things feel like they were carefully tweaked, whereas a ton of the glitches on drukqs sound like they were 'found sounds' just throwing somewhat random FX in and such, but well placed for the composition of the track.

The amount of detail in Syro is really insane, but it takes the right system and the right mindset to really pick it apart. The mixing and analog synth layers are harder to peel apart psychoacoustically (not sure if real use of word), variation is more subtle in that regard. Drukqs level of detail is a lot more upfront, but also has a steep listening curve, eventually it's imprinted in your mind. As accustomed I was to choppy glitchy breaky stuff, Syro is still taking a long time to sink in for me, I just got a new pair of cans and it really opened up the sound for me. It's a different beast altogether, even a lot different than the Tuss. makes me really excited to know what he's working towards next.

side note: I'm most excited about hearing the track he makes with the casio rz1 drum samples and the guy narrating. Hoping it captures some of that taking control vibe.

hope we find out about something new this month. I remember a lot of the "inside knowledge" rumors said Feb was the month for something new. MFM?

EDIT: just realized didn't minipops used to be on the soundcloud. Must have replaced it with this.

    Nothing is happening in February...

Yeah I figured most of the people posting those rumors were full of shit. I think that was mostly from some rando on reddit now that I think about it.

  4. To confirm - the missing track is Nqz3 singing chaos montage+6 (the second of the first 2 tracks uploaded since Nightmail). Dunno why it would be removed, but I'm hopeful that RDJ will explain somewhere.

weird I would have figured that it was one of the ones already released like that japan track or something

EDIT: or maybe he plans on releasing it on some official thing soon?

the "new shit" was aphex was prepping to tour and backed out at the last minute. joyrex confirmed this.

I'm very positive this wasn't the case. He used the word 'GEAR' as a clue a lot. Last post from Joyrex about this:

Sadly, I have news - Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your leanings) Richard is too focused on other items at the moment to devote time to this little project we had planned - it may happen in the future, but for now it's been shelved.
    Some clues:
    Silica Gel
    Shockcases
And no, I'm not going to say what it was, because if it does pick up in the future, then we won't want to spoil it!
The good thing is Richard says "lots of things in the works", so there will be more stuff to look forward to!

meh, who cares we don't even know what it was. we do know there is music in the works and I would not want some project to distract from that. That's all I really care about.

  6.

Yeah, thats the thing...if he released this music "proper" (i.e. digital or physical paid-for) you might end up in this weird world where people from fans to reviewers begin to have the attitude of "Oh, another RDJ release! Jeez...He'll put anything out for a bit of cash".

if he just put out a series of VOD style vinyl box sets of all this tuff that wouldn't happen, collectors would love it. we would all freak out and everyone but the cheap bastards would be happy

yeah if it was a limited run box set he could've sold 10000 $200 box sets and put it in a college fund for his kids(I'm sure that's something he's thinking about). I think this just shows how much more "releasable" material (special edition SAW) he probably has from the time that could generate cash(for example this latest track he held out on giving away for some reason). And his ambitions to keep releasing new music.
