  1. this is a multimillion dollar franchise at this point. they can't hire writers to come up with something better than a having a guy leave the confines of a safe church, with his first meal in days, to go for a walk alone in the woods in the middle of the night during a zombie apocalypse?

    it's fucking insulting

    word.

i still enjoy the show but they really gotta tighten shit up. with all the money they are making they can afford to up the quality quite a bit.

the bottle rocket & the dude walking out of the church into the woods at night really was sloppy.

  2. strange coincidence. i just listened to this album today for the first time in a couple years - then came here & saw this thread bumped.

really connected with all their quaristice-era stuff for some reason. had the biggest influence on me & definitely listened to it the most out of all their material.

... and of course who could forget the almighty los angeles bootleg from the quaristice tour ("this doesn't sound like autechre... but there are 2 guys on stage")

Posted some photos ages ago but have changed things around a bit.

    you have an Octopus!

seems like a cool controller but that's the first time i've seen one in the wild. how's your experience with it?

  4. Was it this crazy out of touch corporate suit's idea to have an emo light rock song play in every episode? jesus christ.

tell me about it!!! god do i hate it every time they pull that crap.

so obviously out of place. pulls you right out of the episode.

you know that is a decision that's all about money. nothing else (record company paying them big bucks to include the song).

but if you remember, they did the same thing at the very end of the shows premier episode (when rick was in the tank), so it's not just a recent development.

besides that issue, tho - i thought this was a pretty good episode overall & have been enjoying the season so far.

i don't see why everyone here seems to hate the show so much.

  5. some of the synth modulations i've heard on recordings of the oversteps tour are insane. i'm pretty surprised to hear that it's all nord because i've heard textures that i thought were only achievable with something like an fs1r, really complex envelopes & rapid timbre changes. i'm wondering - do you ever have problems choking the midi bandwidth sending out so many parameters in realtime? does stuff ever drop-out live and you just sort of roll with it, or do you do extensive stress testing first to make sure all the params are making it to the synth?

sorry for the super technical question. have had problems with my g2 not catching everything when i'm sending it a lot of midi.

  6. each of your albums have their own unifying 'vibe' or identity that comes both from the hardware / software used as well as the compositional process:

untilted - densely programmed step sequenced kit.

quaristice - looser & sparser live jams with hardware.

oversteps - evolving generative melody (i'm assuming sequenced via Max?).

i'm curios what the process/vibe was for Exai? what was the hard/software situation that the album grew out of and how were those early experiments refined and evolved to get the 'Exai sound' ?

  7. RE: second leak:

more interesting & unique track. harder call but still don't think it's them due to the production. the track is all foreground & no background. lacks a sense of depth and ae have been all about that recently. unless it's a real crappy encode...

  8. damn, not this promo crap again. didn't we just go thru this recently? Warp has learned nothing.

    1. designers republic mentions publicly that they have just started working on the artwork for a new autechre release.

    2. 25 years of rabid & painful anticipation.

    3. Warp sends promos of the release to random hipsters with music blogs.

    4. 3 months of reading hipster tweets like "got this new promo from some band called 'autecker'. it's ok i guess. has some weird noises on it and also some beats".

    5. album is finally released.

    6. people who pre-ordered from Bleep get their cds/vinyl 12 years later.

  9. this album is surprisingly good! not what i was expecting at all.

sleek, minimal, synthetic, and very funky.

without a doubt the best rhythm programming he's ever done.

the whole album is a showcase of amazing sound design, mixing, and mastering.

just based on a first listen it sounds like Adrian Belew had a strong influence on this. I'm hearing his style on a lot of the tracks.

if i was forced to compare this to Trents other work i would say it has the synthetic funkyness of Year Zero combined with the sound design and obsessive attention to detail of the Fragile.

the only misstep was using Russel Mills for the album artwork. this album really doesn't remind me of Downward Spiral at all in terms of sound, structure, or lyrics. it strong enough to stand on it's own without being compared to a previous work. plus Mills organic & decayed aesthetic, while very cool, is not a good fit for the sound of this album in my opinion.

  10. i think 'simmm' off quaristice is supposed to be 100% machinedrum + monomachine. remember some ae insider dude with a postcount of 1 showed up in a thread years ago and just dropped a bunch of knowledge. he said the clue to what was used to make that track was in the song title. i didn't get it at first but then later it hit me: simmm = machinedrum + monomachine.

not 100% proof i guess but a good theory considering the sound of that track & the gear they used to make that album.

  11. thanks, the steadycam is just a youtube feature! i filmed this with an older ipod touch model, youtube detected that the footage was very shaky (and it was) and offered to smooth it out..

wow! interesting... thanks for the info.

who knew that youtube could actually generate a really cool looking effect like that.
