A year long series of workshops with Rotherham Sight and Sound, developing new and innovative musical devices, designed specifically for people with visual impairments, in response to a series of detailed workshop exercises, conversations and feedback.

We invited participants to play with sound in creative ways, connect with their sonic environments, exploring how sound can interact and illuminate spaces.

Each week we worked as a group on a number of different activities, building on how each participant engages with and encounters sound, discussing interesting ways to develop the next sessions in a responsive and meaningful way.

In conitnuation of Rian's previous work in creating bespoke music multiplayer music software, we developed new ways of working together and connecting as a group, leading to a new exhibition, performances and multichannel sound art installation in 2023.

This record compiles the results of Rian Treanor's music workshop for visually impaired adults. A fantastic concept, exposing a load of northern pensioners to avant garde deconstructed club music, and getting them to produce it themselves using bespoke software/hardware. A laudable endeavour in and of itself and the results are certainly not amateurish in the slightest, hints of Autechre, SDEM, Gabor Lazar, Grischa Lichtenberger that kind of thing, and of course Treanor himself who I can only imagine did all the sound design while Anne, Mick and Katherine jammed about with the arrangements and structures.
