Michael Jackson - Sonic the Hedgehog 3

for those unaware of this piece of music history trivia, Michael Jackson was hired by Sega to compose the music for sonic the hedgehog , for whatever reason he was let go from the project. Sega ended up using the songs

anyways with minor changes done to them, and Michel Jackson himself used several of these original versions to later make the hits 'Black and White' 'Remember the Time' and 'Jam'. Most of the Sonic music was sped up to double time and keys changed. I made adjustments to each song to match them up with one another.

Since MJ is dead now we will probably never know the actual truth about what happened, but as i listen to more Dangerous and post Dangerous Michael Jackson i keep imagining Michael Jackson busting out some awesome sega genesis fm synthesis music and taking it just as seriously as he would one of his hit singles and i respect him a lot for that.

is this really for real though ?

yes i know i have a bad track record but its not a hoax, if you play the game sonic 3 you can even hear Michael Jackson's voice being sampled.

check out 'Jam' there is one particular riff that is unmistakably from Carnival Night Zone as well as that one also containing michael jackson's voice on the original sega genesis.

i doubt if Sega or MJ ever admitted to reusing these songs, but ill try to see if anybody in an official capcity ever commented on this

The late King of Pop did create a soundtrack for the third Sonic the Hedgehog title, according to the game's project manager.

Numerous reports in the games press since Jackson’s passing last week have mentioned the star’s alleged involvement with the game, but now the truth has come to light thanks to a behind-the-scenes article on the production of the videogame.

Speaking exclusively to games™ in August 2007, Roger Hector, then project-manager of the now-defunct studio Sega Technical Institute, said: “Michael Jackson was a very big fan of Sonic and he wanted to record a soundtrack for the game.”

“Michael Jackson was a very big fan of Sonic and he wanted to record a soundtrack for the game”

“He came to STI and met with the team to discuss the design theme, story and feel of the game. He then went away and recorded an entire soundtrack that covered all of the worlds. It was fantastic. The music fitted perfectly for the game, and they had a distinctive ‘Michael Jackson’ sound.”

Hector also confirmed that Sega decided to shelve the collaboration due to bad publicity surrounding Jackson, who found himself in the centre of a scandal in November 1993.

“It was very late in the development process, and we had to quickly put together a complete replacement music track,” revealed Hector, adding: “Howard Drossin, STI’s music guy, stepped in and did a great job, working around the clock to get it done. It was too bad nobody outside ever heard the Michael Jackson music.“

they clearly lie by saying 'put together a complete replacement music track' because you can hear obvious melodic lines being reused as well as whole chord progressions

oh fuck !!! you just gave me an idea, i need to hear the PC versions of Sonic 3 to see what other songs they had replaced (than the 5 i already mashuped up) i am pretty damn sure there are some other hidden MJ songs in the Sonic 3 soundtrack, by playing the PC version of the tracks i can get a clue to which ones

The funny thing is... there was like a top 40 Michael Jackson on the day after he died, and I watched it with my parents, and I kept saying "This sounds so much like Sonic the Hedgehog music!!"

Blood is on the Dancefloor also sounds distinctly Sonicy but I can't think of any soundtrack song in particular that it sounds like.

While I appreciate the idea behind these mixes you've done I don't think they really work because the keys have changed... cool idea though... this is really interesting!
