the russian one with the bird underwater looks like a weird chop doesnt it. or at least the light/colour looks odd. (same as the fox, looks hdr'd - but i dont know much about real camera work)

i also like this:

and the winner of the underwater i also love:

amazing stuff, but some seem 'shooped. i heard this is actually quite a common thing (ie. stock photos, nature magazines etc) - presumably all the submissions had to be original film or RAW file?

Wolf jumping over the fence won and no surprise either, it's fucking amazing. Looks like a painting.

It also seems to me to be the most likely to have been staged. How the fuck do you get a wolf to jump a fence right in front of you, without it jumping AT you to take your ass out?

tis cool. the one with the snake and the frog is a bit scary.

OH NO YOU DI-INT!

for serious, that's a gecko. green-eyed gecko to be specific (Gekko smithii).

All said and done, I wish I had what it takes to be a wildlife photographer. I don't even want to think of how costly most of the gear these photographers carry is (not that pro photogs pay for their equipment themselves).

it explains how he took it, he used an infrared trigger to take the photo after watching wolves moving through that area repeatedly for a few nights

Ahhhh, see, I wasn't thinking like a wildlife photographer. I was thinking you actually had to be behind the lens at the time the shot was taken. PWNT.
