MLS Cup - LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake

Watched this last night - LA were playing rather shitty to be honest, and I didn't see much from Beckham to make me believe he's one of the games' best players. He really seemed disconnected with the importance of this game. I dunno, perhaps it was the foot injury he was supposedly recovering from.

LOL @ the crybaby on Salt Lake - gets fouled by Beckham, Becks apologizes (several times, in fact) for it, and he can't take it, so he goes off the field crying (not because of the pain, but he embarrassment of not being able to play anymore). And the damn cameras keep focusing on this puto sitting on the bench wiping tears away, and the Salt Lake coach coming by to comfort him - fuck him, this is a cup match, these teams don't have time for little boys.

I think Salt Lake deserved the win - they fought hard, kept possession most of the time, and the pk shootout was epic to say the least - and even though they lost, I gotta give props to the sub LA goalie - the pressure on him to have to follow up after Ricketts' injury, and he performed admirably, although not so much so in the shootout. Bet he was gutted afterwards.

Fuck Donovan with his embarrassingly bad pk kick too - who the hell misses a pk shot?

Beckham doesn't want to be there, he found form again playing for Milan vs. good opposition.

I reckon he'd find it hard to find his form playing in a pretty bad league.

Beckham has never been one of the best, media attention more than anything makes people in America think he's this amazing player.

He is a very good player however. He pretty much pulled Madrid together in his last season to win La Liga, and at Man Utd his performances each week were solid.

For England he has had some of the best games of his life.

One thing that is right though, his distribution is some of the best in modern football, and that is a pretty decent thing to have on your side. Crossing, long balls, all fucking inch perfect.

Yes, that is true - he is very much a "helper" player, getting the ball where it needs to be (that first corner he took in last night's game notwithstanding). He claimed in a pre-game interview that he likes LA and his family likes it there, and he's there to stay. I think his arrangement with Milan will keep his hunger for more competition sated, although it does put him at odds when he performs great for Milan, then comes back to MLS and gives a half-hearted performance. His attitude on the pitch is refreshing though, rarely does he get flustered getting fouled or when the refs make a bad call.

Yeah he's a pretty honest player. That's what I like about him, he's a very hard worker, keeps it simple, can be a play maker and he brings up the UK average attractiveness up.

I imagine America is the only place on earth where beckham isn't super famous. He must have a little anonymity. At least with non fans of the game, which is a lot in the usa

and AFC Bournemouths very own Bret Pitman missed a penalty on the weekend. and came back to score 2. i think in the future you'll be seeing alot more of this amazing striker

I'm suprised you wrote this as I thought the media in the States adored Darren Huckerby, well (to be fair) based on this interview anyways. So funny! Darren Huckerby Footaball Legend (apparently), who, according their sources (the internet and international contacts), is responsible for the greatest goal ever! This interview is hilarious.

I like how the Americans call a clean sheet a 'shutout', then I guess that's common with American Football/hockey etc

Whilst we're discussing this, can we comment on how brilliant Andy Cole is?

Srsly, how do you brits keep track of your coles? We also call boots "cleats", draws are called "ties", and a Mars bar is a Milky Way.
