I said that in the sense that i won't die for any of this nostradamus bullshit or anything like it. At least for these kind of reasons. I don't believe that.

Nostradamus was full of shit, it's been proven.

The Mayans, however, were definitely not.

isn't the whole 2012 thing based on the aztec ( / mayan incan watevva) calenda coming to an end or something? and it's, like, really dumb, right, cuz, like, it's just when their calendar comes to an end?? sort of like how the world doesn't actually end when your desk diary runs out, you just go to yer stationery place and buy a new one. but the mayan /incan/aztecs won't do that cuz they've extinctified themselves, which makes their entire calendar a bit redundant anyway. but yeah woot armapocalypse

edit: and this is my entire knowledge of central american history.

I asked Neil DeGrasse Tyson this very question when I saw him speak where I work. He said, "They were wrong about when the earth began by a few billion years, what makes you think they were right about when it ends?"

I have read some info on this, some time ago. It was related to Mayans and their notions of astronomy as well as their calendar, as you said. I don't have enough knowledge to formulate my opinion, but they were pretty intelligent and scientists themselves have plenty of doubts about this.

funny how some people love to bash Christianity and other religions.. but then turn around and believe in a modern pop culture reinterpretation of an ancient religion

The idea that the Mayan calender "ends" in 2012 is wrong on so many levels, but I'm not going to do the fucking research for you.

People just believe in what scares them to the point they can't understand.

That includes Christianity.

lol, i'd love it if the world actually did end in 2012* just because of some idiots believing it's gonna happen cuz of dead mayans / bad film producers.
