"In the future the world is perfect. Everybody takes Soma. Everybody is happy. Everybody is nice. Everybody is orderly and composed. Everybody has sex every day. No violence, no problems, no feelings. Manufactured in tubes and divided by IQ, humans are produced as either an Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta or Epsilon. Alphas are tall, good-looking and smart. Epsilons short, zombielike and moronic. This new civilization lives in sheltered domes, spread around the globe, that provide them with every comfort and necessity they require, most barely aware of, others intrigued by the savage, brutal world outside, each performing the daily tasks programmed into them from birth." -Brave new world :cerious:

I'm not following? You'll probably have to read the rules so we can take this discussion to the next level imo

really?

Ok

poor you :(

please tell me you believe in that as science fiction only..

lolwat?

It's a critical reflection on society and it's future. This so called utopia with lots of love and peace and where wars are a thing of the past, just take your meds and everything will be ok. With the exeption of those mad savages who are depicted as lesser beings then them because they are more violent and whatnot. I think it's ez to see the paralells in society today, or maybe im just a madmen with an internet connection being wrong. I posted it because that vid seems to be a big fan of this BNW because it's only pointing out the good things and not the bad, like the exponential growth of psychological and social problems in the last couple of decades. Life has never been better in a materialistic point of view and yet nobody is satisfied. Less is more methinks.

OT: no the end is not near, every generation thinks the end of the world will happen in their lifetime. Prolly makes them feel special or something

I lived through the cold war. Reagan, Nukes, Russia, the movie threads, Day after. .That time was waaaaay scarier to be honest than terrosist. Not that 9/11 wasn't shocking. It could all still happen. Anything could happen

Yeah I think post-cold war people can never understand what it was like during the coldwar, or living in a world without the nuclear bomb.

There isn't anyone on this board who can understand what it was like living in a world without the nuclear bomb. As to the bit about living pre-1950s, yes, there might have been more of a community. It's what having that community meant, I'm not so clear on, as there were still wife-beaters, rapists, murderers, child-abusers, alcoholics, drug users in every community. People just turned a blind eye and whispered about it behind each others' backs.

If you go back pre-1900, you have way shorter life expectancies, fewer opportunities to travel, fewer opportunities to educate oneself, fewer choices in number of people to fuck, less choice in music, and no internet porn.

And not much has changed. What choices did people have?

the world is gone

it's pretty funny, you decrying the end of civilisation and demanding everyone MAKE A DIFFERENCE, from behind the comfort of your keyboard and monitor.

what's step #1 then?

Yeah, how dare he express dissatisfaction... usually the first step of revolution.

Yes, spouting off about the evils of capitalism and corporatism from the safety of your home is exactly like a revolution. Oh wait. No it's not.

You're too stuck with looking at that in the short term so I have no interest in debating this with you, sorry.

The fact that we can read his message means that there is enough people dissatisfied with such things.

one way or the other we are expected to do what is right and true. we are expected to stand firm for the truth and to know what truth is.

when those who need proof get their proof (and believe me it's coming) that we are doomed if we don't change - then it will be the

strongest of us who will continue to do what is right even though the temporal world is coming to an end. these choices are and

will be the final test - facing the choice to either 'party like it's 1999' or to recognize our true selves and represent the truth

thats hidden within us. depending on who we are it might be more or less difficult to know and adhere to this truth we hold

inside, but in the end we must all face it. i tell you truly, it's much easier to do this work now then to remain naive

until the end. no amount of fruitless experiences here can compare to what is yet to come if we make the right

choices.

even though the world is gone we must never give up fighting for what is right within it's fallenness!

the world is nothing more then a fleeting thing if compared to our eternity - we must represent

who we truly are forever - not just within the confines of this isolated momentary existence.

the writing is on the wall - the question is what are we going to do?
