edit: hmmm seems mark ernestus from basic channel is partially responsible for breaking this stuff outside africa

Miles better than the shit they hear here, kizomba, kuduro or whatever the fuck the africans listen, imagine hearing this stupid beat on everything all the time:

Still it's only interesting because of the novelty, I wouldn't search for shangaan electro on my own.

i disagree, i haven't heard such happy and different music in quite a while

Same at first but it has worn off for me, don't find it interesting anymore, still like the last track the best, maybe if we hear more good tracks.

i've wanted a marimba forever now, this just makes me want one more.

i like this shit, it does get a little repetitive and i'd like to see the songs go some place, but it's a refreshing change from most pop shit out now

someone posted a vid about a khadafi look-alike pimp singing over mad Arabic synthlines. I think the person who posted this vid was ironic, but i totally loved it : i'd like to hear more. I'm currently investigating Arabic electro on youtube.

You talking about Konono No. 1? I thought they weren't too bad. Original. Missed them at Sonar couple years back.

i saw konono no. 1 live a couple of years back, and they were incredible shit hot; i danced my ass off. they have a slightly different sound, but a similar DIY ethic to this stuff. also recommended is toumani diabate - although his stuff isn't electronic, the rhythms are definitely similar.

i posted it in general banter because the afx forum is full of weirdos so some people never go there. also it has nothing to do with aphex twin. if i was a mod i would have moved it instead.

the MAFIAA don't seem to want the original of this on youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftXv6w4MXVs&feature=related

but a live version is no bad thing. i hear a lot of bush of ghosts in the shangaan stuff, or rather exactly the other way round.

Same beat on all tracks

people say that all the time on their initial exposure to dnb, techno, dubstep, all sorts of electronic music.
