Feedback on a site I am working

Hi, I've been on the forum for awhile and I really digged the community and the eclectic tastes of everybody.

I really wanted to get feedback from people here because I feel that people have great taste and love music :)

This is the music site I've been working on songfountain.com

Which is basically a site to get new music links and keep track of your own.

There are so many different places to get music from like blogs, soundclouds, last.fm. rdio, yt and etc.

I thought it'd be nice if there was somewhere you can just get it universally.

Anyways, I just honestly wanted your thoughts and I understand if this is considered spam, but you can reply optionally (obviously lol)

Also, if any producers wanna post for exposure and/or feedback, please feel free. I as a producer am always down to listen to anything lol.

Thanks,

Kian

So this is a site that has RSS feeds, or do you have to visit to keep informed?

Thx for the response, right now it doesn't have a rss feed, but we're going to add one.

Im no programmer, but from a visual point of view its very bare. Also the text is sort of head wrecking, titles and descriptions sort of mash into each other and I can tell the different. A simple bold font for headings or Italics for links would be nice.

this does look useful!

however i agree with chassis that the text formatting looks confusing..

hard to read what people are posting..

clean that up and like Joyrex said get RSS and all should be well. :) cheers

One comment on that design - lose the harsh blue line around the player - make the player background a more muted colour (gray/light blue) and thin out the blue line or remove it altogether. Might visually ease things up and make it flow a bit better.

Yeah, that's a great idea! To have a background color around the player and remove the line. The blue is harsh too, I agree, thanks a lot man. I am going to deffo add those changes.

Agree on the RSS, or whatever really, sometimes I prefer actual sites to google reader. If this was something like, I sign up, tag artists and labels I want to keep tabs on and your site parps out a personalised feed, I would use it. If you could select exactly what sort of thing you want from people you follow too, for example on youtube when you subscribe to someone's channel you also have the option to be updated on what they liked or commented on too. People'll want a way to cut through the noise, exclude updates which mention artists they hate and all that jazz. Also, perhaps a self-promotion check box on the submit page so those kind of messages can be filtered, 'cause you'll get a lot of that if the site gets reasonably popular.

captaincrawl.com is kind of useful, and perhaps it'll give you a few ideas. Essentially, you search there and you only get results from music sites.

and on that landing page where you have: Find New Music, Discuss Songs With Like-Minded People, Keep Track Of All Your Song Links

I can't see what in the balls those images are trying to illustrate.

Thanks man for the reply, the goal is to eventually get to the point where you can follow artists, blogs, label as you say. Your right that the site should have some kind of advanced filtering in terms of what comes in from the people you follow.

Also, to try to keep self-promotion from spamming the site. We are we're working on some kind of filtering system for the people you follow, right now you can filter though tags of the whole site, we just need to translate to filtering to the feed + more filtering options of course.

In addition I am trying to add tags that other users can put on other songs.

Captain Crawl is pretty cool for searching through a lot of blogs :)

Yeah those images are hard to see lol. I appreciate taking time to reply man, thx.

oh and don't get discouraged by criticism here! watmmers are both highly cynical, extremely critical, and tend to know what they want.

so if anything you've come to the right place to work out the kinks in your website..

new design looks more functional though, joyrex is right about the boundary lines.

dude once its all said and done you'll have a very excellent site together. :)

Yeah I really like the criticalness of this site and I actually encourage people to be critical in their feedback :)

Thanks a lot tho man, I hope it goes well. I just want to keep on working on it because I feel it can honestly be useful.

But of course in real world honest use is not always as important as marketing lol. Look at pop music.
