Have been listening to loads of Manix over the last few years. Always loved 4hero but got into Manix late.

Was surprised to hear that he has a new album out done in the classic style:

Good interview

The album is very true to the authentic Manix sound. What kit did you use to produce it?

"One of the things that was important to capture the old sound was actually digging out the old equipment: I've still got the Akai S950, I've still got the Atari 1040. I wasn't going to try and make a whole track in that way because it's just too long, but the first thing I did was actually go through all my old discs.

"Half of the discs had bad data, but I could get breaks and some kits recorded out of it and into Logic. I suppose that's a process in itself, because the 950 has a sound that lends itself to that era naturally, it's got that warmth on the breaks."

damn!

1. I had no idea reinforced still existed.

2. this is a really odd and interesting album IMO. There's some really good material that sounds very appropriate for now, but overall, it sounds like it was made for real, illegal, esctacy fueled raves, made for the early 90s, and I find it kind of eerie. I mean, consider that most throwback albums are tainted with nostalgia (as in, remembering things as better than they really were) and 'modernizing' of old tropes, whereas Manix made an album for a culture that doesn't exist any more and never will again, with no compromises, and nailed it.
