  1. I think LSD is a good place. It seems to me only a minority of their releases are really all that "industrial" - mostly their first few releases - but LSD/The Snow is some excellent EBM music, which is in some cases synonymous with "industrial" depending on who you talk to. Personal favorites are Musick to Play in the Dark/The Remote Viewer so I suppose the "lunar" phase, I dunno. I've never heard that before. Is Moon's Milk a signifier in some way?
  2. I'd have to see these ads but I'm struggling to imagine them swaying anyone. I doubt most Trump supporters have seen Idiocracy and I'm guessing those who have either think it's condescending liberal bullshit, or think Camacho would make a badass president. I definitely find myself talking about Idiocracy more and more often, though, especially in the context of Trump. I live in a very conservative area and many of such people that are my age have seen Idiocracy, Team America World Police, etc etc. Family Guy (ugh) is especially popular with the young conservative crowd. I think people generally recognize that those works are satirical, but they don't seem to completely get it. A year or two ago I overheard a co-worker (at a place where I was one of three liberals that I knew of) comparing Barack Obama to Mister President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, claiming that our current president won votes by being a "rock star president" and I guess implying a lack of professionalism. I guess there is some kind of redneck equivalence between becoming president of a student law review in the second year of law school/being a law professor and attorney for a decade, and being a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I don't doubt at all that he is now a Trump supporter and believes that he is fully qualified as a candidate.
  3. Did you wait until after the venue closed to hear it?
  4. Did anyone here catch them on their recent tour? What did you think of any new material they played? I listened to a clip of one new song but I wasn't very moved by it, just curious about what to expect from a new Tool release.
  5. Enigma - The Eyes of Truth Enigma was my introduction to music (outside of the typical radio stuff) when I was ~10-11. Loved the percussion in this track and it wasn't until several years later I learned that it was sampled from a Peter Gabriel track on Us. Still like it better here though. A lot of Enigma is kind of difficult to enjoy now, but for me this track, complete with the cringey appropriation of traditional music and casio-flutes, is still Just don't watch the original video for it
  6. Only two tracks in this game's soundtrack, and they are both so inappropriately delirious and estranged from anything Barbie or anything else at all, really. The gameplay theme as a similar effect on me as a couple tracks from SAWII.
  7. ^ yep, me too. That guy nails the atmosphere IMO. Fervent Dream (on Silent Season) is also pretty nice. I haven't dig that far into Auxilliary releases yet but it's something I'm keeping an eye on it.

That '99 Coachella(?) soundboard included a track later on Confield, Pen Expers I think. The 2005-2007 shows had some parts that were later released as IO and Chenc9. I haven't listened to all of the soundboards yet, but they do bring me back to the shows I attended in a pretty neat way. I would not be disappointed at all if the new album was a continuation of this stuff.
  9. I just found out Substrata Festival is no longer a thing, due to Irisarri moving to NY. :( I've never even been to Seattle but I had been excited by the fact that a concept like that was successful and thriving in some city.

Wouldn't mind an ae can opener or shower curtain myself
  11. Brainwashed. Not sure when this page was published, but it's recent and I assume it is a response to Soleilmoon's decision to call off the sale. http://brainwashed.com/bark/projects-coil.html
  12. Yo, so you guys there's going to be more "new" Coil soon. Some things that I've never heard of that I assume until the near future have been unreleased, and some reissues with demos that the most hardcore fans might have heard already. https://www.facebook.com/soleilmoonrecordings/photos/a.74972432260.86149.64672972260/10153438624737261/?type=3&permPage=1 https://www.soleilmoon.com/shop/?filter_label=344 Nice that they included this in their post. Who is making money from this? The family/estate or is it a non-profit kind of project? And how is Coil even involved with Soleilmoon? All I could find was this, a cassette that just appears to be a renamed version of Themes for Hellraiser. http://www.discogs.com/Coil-The-Consequences-Of-Raising-Hell/release/205106
  13. I've been going through some of the Rapoon discography. Some of the albums are fantastic but most don't keep my attention. I like this track, and I wish he had done more in a similar direction

I feel like this is currently more relevant to this thread than the films thread - To people into Southern Reach: Alex Garland, who recently directed Ex Machina, is directing a film adaptation of Annihilation. Haven't seen Ex Machina yet, but I like his fiction. Annihilation is also probably my favorite book of the three, so I'm v. excited.

    Rare pics of Ae

Didn't know anything about this. Apparently some live sets? No studio work. Are there any recordings of these out there?

Oryx & Crake is a really amazing book. I read it a few years ago, and I hear from different folks that it is more relevant now than it was before, which is pretty impressive. I'm going to reread it this summer, and hopefully the other two in the series.
  17. Interesting. The Remote Viewer is one of my favorite Coil releases. Out of what all I've heard anyway; there's still a lot for me to check out. I'd love to hear these extra tracks! Difficult to find any info because it was already reissued with a bonus disc including tracks 4 and 5, which is the copy I have. Surely this is real though?
  18. If you haven't heard these, anyway. These two don't evoke the exhilarating bliss that bvdub does, but might come close to the description Lawrence English - Kiri No Oto (Touch) Fennesz Also check out ASC if you haven't! Can't recommend his ambient material enough. See my post earlier on this page
  19. I've been listening to Time Heals All by ASC a lot over the last couple months, and I can't seem to get enough of it. Can WATMM recommend some more ambient music like this? "Dramatic" probably isn't a sufficient description; although I do enjoy the likes of Lawrence English and Murcof's Cosmos, but I am not looking for the shocking seriousness of those. Maybe "expressive" and "eventful" but not reserved. I also listened to Truth Be Told, which is also good. I'm amazed at the use of field recordings as well. It all fits together so naturally for me.
  20. It's like Quique but with more drugs.
  21. http://astrangelyisolatedplace.com/2014/10/12/neither-scene-nor-heard-a-journey-through-ambient-music/ Has anyone seen this article? Although it is missing a few key artists and labels, I thought it was surprisingly comprehensive. It covers more that pure ambient music too, which I think is great. I agree with the argument that ambient itself isn't a scene or genre, but instead it's a useful term used for several different sub-cultural margins to other scenes. I learned a lot of new names too (mostly in the trance section. I've never paid all that much attention to trance, but I'll definitely listen to those mentioned soon). It's definitely useful to people just getting into ambient music, and I will absolutely recommend it to people who show interest in any of the things listed here.
  22. Has anyone played Xaxi? I haven't checked it out yet, but I love just watching videos of it. It doesn't seem to be so much of a game as a space to simply walk around in and explore. V IDM. http://www.noctuelles.net/Xaxi It looks beautiful, almost Draft or Exai at times. The depth of field effect in combination with the falling layer of flickering lit polygons, working like a pulse of the environment, kind of boosts a sense of realism making it more strangely alien.
  23. Bjork - Vespertine It's become a pretty standard first-half-of-winter album for me I suppose. My favorite of hers, and I listen to repeatedly for a few weeks at a time. It brings a lot of warmth to grey commutes. 34423 - Tough and Tender Don't really know anything about artist or label, found it on accident. It's not anything new but it's well done and there are some nice sound assemblages. I recommend a listen. Luomo - Vocalcity Talking to a friend last night about Vladislav Delay and he mentioned his other monikers. News to me, I wasn't aware of anything other than Vladislav. So I looked into it and recognized an album cover I've seen all over before. Tits, this is good. I can't believe I passed this one over before. Need more dub-micro-house or whatever this is.
