  1. it's frustrating i know. but my understanding is there weren't prosecutions because the cases that they broke laws were just too weak. wearing my obama apologist hat here, so i'll say the laws were decades in the making and not really obama's fault. put simply: the laws sucked. they tried to improve them (frank-dodd). i wouldn't say he hired the architects but he definitely brought on people who were over sympathetic to the wrong perspective. but man, you gotta scale your problems. the obama admin has its warts, but i really think they are of a different order of magnitude than what we're facing now. and tricking people into thinking things were comparable, when they weren't, is how these clowns got us into this potential shitshow.
  2. just watched first 3. not superb but we are enjoying it- mostly because we wanna see where it goes.
  3. https://soundcloud.com/tysk-raider more tuss? or blasphemy? tysk raider is good stuff. he's putting out a wax on sleepers/aura expansion soon
  4. woke af like. except for the unadulterated pessimism at the end. seems like progress (yeah, i will use that word) moves in fits and starts but we are still headed towards star trek future devoid of physical wants, one humanity, living lives of science and art. mark it.
  5. I really doubt this. He's got Republican majority in Senate and House, so if he "Becomes practically a democrat" he'll be fighting against both and greatly disappointing his supporters. What motivation does he have to do this? "Doing the right thing?" He's given zero shits about this up to this point. I dunno. You may be right. It just feels that so much of his outward persona is just brash, obnoxious and so forth and yet I believe there is another man in there somewhere. During the last eighteen months, there were a few moments (so fleeting they may have been said to have never even occurred) where I felt he accidentally let his guard slip. Sometimes it was an expression or just his body language. Trump showed no interest in learning or preparing or listening. I don't think he's actually interested in the work of the job and it's totally possible he's feeling a bit like the dog that caught the car, if that's the phrase. It's amazing to me that people think he's got some other level. Could he? Yes, anything is possible, but from what I've seen during this election, the simplest answer is the right one. No. My prediction is he cedes the policy work to the rag tag and collectively dissonant bunch he's surrounded himself with. Theil/Pence/Gingrich/Reince will work out agreements with McConnell and Ryan and we'll get some mutated Republicanism that is irresponsible tax cuts, deregulation, and healthcare confusion. That won't stop Trump from claiming victories on the wall or trade but again, he's shown no capacity to do the hard work that big ideas require for realization. Then, if there is some event that we can't imagine right now, and there will be, the response will be ill-informed and short-sighted. The last time this crew had the control panel, we got a big terrorist attack (yes yes I understand there's an argument that that wasn't negligence by W's crew, but I'm of the opinion that it was), two wars, massive corporate malfeasance (e.g. Enron), reckless trickle down tax cuts, Citizen's United, and global recession. I honestly don't know how the overt racism and xenophobia will play out. It may embolden very serious and very scary groups. It's so strange that I really can't predict what will happen with it. That's not to say that racism and xenophobia are not sloshing around all the time. But it is weird for the president to be willing to use it.
  6. https://twitter.com/Khanoisseur/status/788796890414325760 Can't decide what attribute is most dangerous. Up until now thought it was gullibility. Sometimes I thought it was his hubris. Now I think this it's his 19th century understanding of human genetics.
  7. really glad mccain referenced trump's obscene statements about he central park 5 in addition to the hot mic stuff. dudes were exonerated by the confession of the real perpetrator and DNA evidence, and trump bizarrely maintained their guilt yesterday.
  8. her wording saying, not voting = voting for Hillary's opponent is dumb. but it's like, in the end, whoever wins, not voting = contributing to that. What? I'm commenting on the language used in the article. It's becoming more common place. na man it's not herd mentality. it's an easily defendable approach to voting that you don't agree with. i get the sanctity of the vote argument. i voted for nader from MA and i STILL defend it because it was in MA. it's a big bummer we're stuck here (again). but the notion that you should vote for the person who most reflects your positions with no regard to the *weighted impact of your vote* just doesn't make sense to me. yes! agitate for the positions and policies you believe in at all times. but given the situation, your best bet is to vote for the candidate that maximizes your weighted impact, and then agitate like hell for the things you want. i'm a fan of voting for hill, then complaining about her all the time. in my case, that means default anti-war, progressive taxation, criminal justice reform, and BLM. it could mean something different for you: open trade, climate change, international human rights, i dunno! but it sounds like you sorta agree with her way more than you agree with trump and so your ability to make change would be best positioned by getting someone who won't shut you out.
  9. shes a liar, criminal, war criminal, racist, psychopath. many says that from her. http://www.wnd.com/2015/05/here-they-are-hillarys-22-biggest-scandals-ever/ is that all false? jeez i was expecting way worse. that stuff isn'y very convincing. i'm no hillary fan, but that vid made me feel kinda bad for her and understand her paranoia a little more. you realize that there were and still are entire office floors, filled with ambitious lawyers, pouring over countless documents, working as hard as they can, trying to initiate investigations into everything she has ever done, everything anyone who has worked for her has done. i can't imagine that kind of scrutiny wouldn't uncover something that looks fishy if that's what you desperately wanted. and AAALLLLL that effort has yielded what? 20 min of mostly innuendo. sadly we have to pick the lesser of two evils right now. hillary is paranoid (shit, who wouldn't be after all this shit from her husband, her opponents, the media, etc). but trump has two attributes which scare the shit out of me: he's gullible and unteachable.
  10. enjoying this album esp grabbed with claws, vcl-2rm acid, and luminist modular. anyone else think it sounds like drukqs tracks at times?
  11. man i love this show. didn't read the thread at all to avoid spoilers but wanted to encourage all y'all to check it out.
  12. did anyone else get a copy with the side labels reversed? A1-A4 sticker is on the B side and vice versa. i'm willing to start the bidding at $1000 for this ultra-rare AFX collectible :)
  13. wow. sounds cool. Makes me wonder if that is more around the speed it was recorded and he slowed it all later. oh sh*t!
  14. analord has so much neat stuff with the overdubbing and analog hiss and gating and all this tape warmth. and after hearing all these downgraded versions presumably filled with artifacts, i'm as excited to hear the sounds in between the sounds as i am the sounds in the sounds, har har.
  15. 7b is fantastic. man, the (dynamic?) spread on the snare is such a nice detail. the 3 tracks i've heard in full and the amazon snippets seem to suggest this is much more analordy than second half of syro-y in mood. i've always loved subdued RDJ more than spastic RDJ.
  16. 2X202-TS5 on BBC6 right now! Sounds dope!!!
  17. No, it's not. I've heard amazon previews and every track sounds like analordish chilly AFX jam. This is going to be a beautiful release, trust me. And this track? Made by some wanker having no clue about amazon previews and trying to fool people. doesn't sound like any of the previews, but i kinda like it and would like to know who did it.
  18. Was wondering when somebody was going to post that... Yes, wife and two kids - it will be interesting to see what affect married life, fatherhood has on his music in terms of themes and output. This is exactly my feeling (and was actually the same introduction to him) - there seems to be almost an entire eschewing (is that the word) of reverb in is tracks from the past decade, I wonder what the decision for that is ? I think like any artist, when you use an effect or technique constantly, you get bored of it and look for other ways to express yourself - he probably just got bored with reverbing everything, and decided a more tighter sound was the direction he wanted to go in. One of my biggest complaints about electronic music in general is the lack of stereo separation - for some reason, more traditional music (pop, etc.) has nice separation, with sounds coming from distinct parts of the soundspace - with electronic music, it seems very flat and not dimensional. Of course, there are some standouts, but the vast majority of it is really 2-dimensional (to my ears, anyway). FWIW I don't listen with headphones very often; usually in the car or on computer speakers. this may have something to do with electronic music still being mastered for vinyl, for which stereo effects, esp at low end, are problematic. also, i've always wondered if electronic music would do better with space if you just mic'd everything rather than direct lines. i've tried to do this- like play each element out of an appropriate amp- and record from the mic, but i'm jsut not set up to do this all the time.
  19. i know i know, pfork is sort of a parody of itself these days and they have made some big misses, but man, do they nail the review of this track. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/18386-aphex-twin-cirklon3-mix/. It's buoyant, bubbly, and fluid, with repetitions that recall arcade games, side-scrolling, and all the fun of being young somehow. It isn’t always apparent when listening to Aphex Twin, but deep inside the postmodern ennui and irony of his music, there is an eternally youthful feeling, or at least one that is naughty and childish. yeah yeah there's a lot of prankish prickish stuff in his past, but i think /hope a lot of that stuff isn't coming back. folks have already noted how much fun we are all having with this grand return and totally new relationship with fans. it's hazardous to go too far down this road, but there's something about dad-life that makes you take yourself less seriously and i wonder how much dadding around has lightened RDJ and made this all possible. if that really is him in the mask in the video goofing with the kid / playfuly chasing him the field, awwww man!!!!!!
  20. yo this form is the greatest. so what there are some throwaway posts. i gots snippets. 5 WATMM points to the first person who can tell me what i did wrong when I snagged that mouse embryo (pic below)?
  21. damn, missed them. Were there any recognizable SC dump tracks outside of the 'cheetah's? i dutifully listened to every sc track, but probably did repeated listens on 50%. i only recognized cheetah3 in the EP snippets yeah yeah. probably too late with this reply but for the record, cheetah7 is on there too. name is the same so i didn't say it in my previous post.
