Yeah every once in a while sounds pretty alright compared to building roof trusses, or running HVAC every day. Or even doing home renovations for a living. There's a reason I got my masters and got out of "trades". That shit should be automated first, cause no one should have t put up with that BS. Sadly, due to the manual dexterity needed, it'll be the last sort of stuff to be automated (not building roof trusses, that could be automated easily).

For sure, it's not like digging ditches or anything, but work is work. It's not a pissing contest.

If I put it all together though, I've probably built and broken down miles and miles of truss for events. I got out of that stuff because I knew my back wouldn't be able to take it anymore.

  2. Very disappointing, and I'm surprised this didn't pop up in this thread before.

Amazon warehouse workers vote not to unionize in Bessemer, Alabama

BESSEMER, Ala. — Amazon warehouse workers here voted overwhelmingly against forming a union Friday after a monthslong campaign in which labor had hoped to make inroads into the sprawling company.

As of Friday morning, 1,798 employees voted against unionizing, compared to 738 in favor.

If it had been approved, the union would have been the first in the United States for Amazon, the country's second-largest employer.

Zeff, have you ever worked a day of manual labour in your life? Running CAT5 cable doesn’t count.

Having to put several lines throughout ceiling conduit while in a bucket lift fucking sucks. Had to do that every once in a while when I was installing projectors back in the day.

  4. I don't want to come off as too cynical, because I love physics, but this kind of statement shows up every few years and then quietly goes away. I do hope they've found something new, but for the laymen, we should just put it in our back pocket, hope for the best, and forget about it til it's fully verified.

If we had a better understanding of the Higgs Field, that would help us define what time is. At that point, I think we would have a clearer idea of how the universe began. Maybe this new discovery will help us understand that.

tldr; I'm getting tired of the cock tease.

now that's what i call "moving on up"

An email that the BLM organization put out this morning.

    [Name],

You may have seen the recent, misleading stories about property owned by our executive director, Patrisse Cullors. The news coverage and social media posts contain falsehoods and disinformation generated and hyped up by right-wing zealots at the National Legal and Policy Center. Our attorneys have sent Cease & Desist letters to NLPC to demand they correct the record and stop their destructive crusade.

To set the record straight, as volunteer Executive Director, Patrisse Cullors does not receive a salary or benefits from Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.

She has received a total of $120,000 since the organization's inception in 2013, for duties such as serving as spokesperson and engaging in political education work. Patrisse did not receive any compensation from the organization after 2019.

As a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation cannot and did not commit any organizational resources toward the purchase of personal property by any employee or volunteer. Any insinuation or assertion to the contrary is categorically false.

To be clear, this is an orchestrated campaign by NLPC and is a direct attack on our movement. They feel threatened by our work to end police violence and white supremacy and will do anything to create division and undermine us as an organization and the larger movement.

[Name], we want to make sure our supporters are aware of this and correct any lies or misconceptions you may have read.

We will keep you updated and appreciate your continued support.

    In love and solidarity,

Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation

Hopefully they can be retooled for any new variants, although the South African strain seems to be able to evade the Pfizer vaccine in some cases:

400 people is actually a really small portion of the population, so I'm curious to see more data as it develops. It also says at the bottom of the article:

Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Monday that breakthrough infections will always happen.

"We see this with all vaccines, in clinical trials and in the real world. No vaccine is 100% efficacious or effective, which means that we will always see breakthrough infections, regardlessof the efficacy of the vaccine," Fauci said during a virtual White House briefing on Monday, according to The Hill.

He said a vaccine has value because it will protect against serious disease, even if a virus breaks through the vaccine’s protection. He gave influenza as an example.

Speaking directly to the Israeli study, Fauci said it was misleading and makes it sound like people who get two doses of the Pfizer vaccine have a higher chance of COVID infection than unvaccinated people.

Fauci if an infection does break through the protection offered by a vaccine, it will likely be the "more difficult variant," but "that doesn't mean you have a greater chance of getting it," the Hill said.

I just hope these vaccines are good against the inevitable variant wave that’s gonna fuck a lot more shit up.  Ugh.

In a nutshell, the mRNA vaccines tell your immune system to grow spikes on the T cells to stick to coronavirus cells and then dispose of them. The spikes are partly what makes the virus effective, so as long as that particular thing doesn't drastically mutate, it should also work on any variant.

Kind of a FWS - I do not have any oral STIs (test came back negative).  But now I really have no idea what this throat thing could possibly be.  There are things about it that rule out every other throat related thing I've read about online.

Not sure if it was already mentioned, but if I wake up with a sore throat for no reason it's usually because I slept with my mouth open.

  9. NYPD “Goon Squad” Manual Teaches Officers to Violate Protesters’ Rights

    https://theintercept.com/2021/04/07/nypd-strategic-response-unit-george-floyd-protests/

    Quote

Within a year of its founding, a controversial push to expand the NYPD’s head count by 1,300 officers ended up doubling the size of the SRG. Its budget quickly ballooned from $13 million to nearly $90 million. Equipped with state-of-the-art anti-riot gear and heavy weaponry, as well as its signature fleet of bicycles and combat armor-clad riders, the SRG, a voluntary unit, attracted cops looking for “more action,” many with lengthy misconduct records. Since 2015, SRG officers have met peaceful protests with violence, failed to intervene as far-right activists assaulted counterprotesters, and participated in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man.

So weird to see my old bisleyesque art excercises on here ?

First bit of artwork from the Åbacka live one is so accurate. It was performed outdoors under brilliant starlight in a forest and I was galaxy level fucked up. Good times!

Going to sort out some duds and errors from the mega link and then we’ll post it.

Were you performing in the tracker? 'CPU Overload' messages in Logic have scarred me to the point where I don't trust performing in anything less stable than Ableton.
