  1. so? a fittingly anarchic finale (Jodorowsky must be in his mid 80's by now) to El Topo & The Holy Mountain, 2 of the greatest pieces of transcendental cinema ever made
  2. Musicophilia - Oliver Sacks gonna have to nibble at this
  3. its sweaty, sleazy and manic under the heat of the location. whatshisface Cusack is a hardcore loon & N Kidman is pretty good as his psycho, spread em n wank missus <----- believe 7half/10 edit - that dint say much, its a crime caper of sorts set in the south with plenty of plotting & scheming & eye-rape
  4. DL is such a unique talent and creates moods like no other his casts are always a deranged array of faces n freaks, cant wait.
  5. have u watched The Paperboy? over le weekend,,,,,,Midnight Cowboy......still a complete trip of a film "you're the only 1 Joe,,,,,", D Hoffman (sp?) is superb, and ending with a kick in the guts a bit like Kes. 11/10 from same era The Little Big Man, quite long, but so many quality characters, Faye Dunaway as the madonna/whore...... 8/10
  6. PKD related a tv series adapted from "The Man in the High Castle" starts this week.......gotta have a nose @ this
  7. If you have a few glasses of wine or a few measures of scotch every now and then are you automatically labelled a boozehound? The vast majority of people who smoke do so in moderation without it interfering with their social or work lives and are simply tired of outdated ineffective legislation that does more harm to society than the drug itself ever has. The debate about drug policy is an important one, whether you do drugs or not. well said
  8. theres a DL exhibition in Middlesbrough of all places currently, if yer in the NE-UK it would be top of my list of special things to do can't wait for the new series - Bob must been in a wheelchair by now doe and what about this wee fella,,,,,,
  9. eh oop Usagi, things are about to get abrasive ;) This Is England is quality, but i found with that cast that they would goof around n whatnot & Shane M was happy enough to "document" this as performance. Or maybe its just that Dead Man's Shoes was so full on that everything afterwards could seem "less".... Have you seen A Room For Romeo Brass, 24 7, or Small Time? The former is very much like Dead Man's Shoes, w/Paddy C playing the weirdo oddball who latches onto the two kids as some bizarre older friend. Funny as fuck too in places....."oh you're gonna go darkside on me are ya.....go on then, go fookin darkside....." Factoid - my mate went to school w/Vicky McClure
  10. wow, glad you're alright man wouldnt recommend it ;) i'm just about at the Dr Strangelove phase of "Mein Fuhrer, I CAN VALK!!!!!"
  11. thats the 1 with Olivia whatsherface & Peter Mullen in isnt it......google confirms......yes i have Hog, bleak & super intense with that doughy rat faced cunt as her abusive hubby. Hard to believe that was a directorial debut ffs. Its like they took all the best elements of Ken Loach & Mike Leigh & boiled them down to their essential parts with added psychopaths & danger. You're always pulling for Olivia C in that filem and it pulls you all over the place with her harrowing treatment. Totally forgot about it too, cheers bwlad.
  12. watched Dead Man's Shoes for the 1st time earlier since it came out cant believe its 11 years ago........ just wish Mr Meadows would get over his This Is England period pieces & get back to this kinda work,,,,,,, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9iGtltgji0
  13. have had some baby Hudson whiskeys collecting dust for far too long and some of those are gonna get sampled this weekend couple of ice-cubes........perfection
  14. comedy bits, hope not reposting Bill Burr on his dog: Patrice O'Neal on top form:
  15. Ageispolis is ambient-house done to otherworldly greatness & the soundtrack to a time of dancing under the stars, a 1001 comedowns and a few rides too along the way. Those keys and chords,,,,,,,,
  16. there's a cracking documentary-piece about Chet Baker called "Let's Get Lost", which is equal parts music maestro cataloging and equal parts bleak dark take of how someone who pretty much had it all slid into decades of junk abuse. What a voice though, melancholic, sweet-toned,,,,,, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095515/ saw Jerry Mulligan @ Brecon Jazz in the summer of 1991 w/my old man. Never seen my dad so entranced by anything, it was superb though. Mulligan on sax and just a bass/drums accompaniment, all with 1/2min solo licks by all 3 at various stages across 2hrs and the man musta been well into his 60's.
  17. Chris Watson's gear is fail-safe soundscape brilliance. Perfect for blending with more melodic compositions. Really liked El Tren Fantasma for the 2 outstanding pieces El Divisadero & El Tajin. http://www.discogs.com/Chris-Watson-El-Tren-Fantasma/release/3112537 One record that always hit the spot was Skylab's "Skylab#1", specifically for the tune "Next" (the footsteps one): http://www.discogs.com/Skylab-Skylab1/master/31144 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnavqrb1WGw Also, just about everything that ever came out on the EM:T label, Nottingham's finest. Note to self - go back through this thread meticulously when it isnt so fuckin late
  18. 12-14% is a heavy concoction, double the depressant value by rounding it off with a few pulls of green and it can be a 1-way ticket to caucasian sensation nation 1 of my oldest friends can bosh cider after cider after cider and rinse through any number of joints, but i think the cells upstairs that would normally "react" to this festival of over-indulgence just arent there anymore
  19. if you pace yersen it can be a delicious mix, but one false move (especially w/spirits) can spell disaster
