  1. Sucks man. Yeah, at my job, there is a 10 hour shift interval minimum, but I've had to come in after 10 hours way too many times to count. Back in the day, the minimum reset at the start of the work week, so people would often have 6 hours between shifts from Sunday to Monday and such. Criminal, imo. My first world problem: gnugp2 is taking forever to build from the ports tree in openBSD.
  2. I told a friend "sentient life is a way for the universe to know itself" like it was a profound original thought. Realized the next day i had merely paraphrased Carl Sagan.
  3. I made these between 2002 and 2003. Totally amateurish stuff with photoshop filters (and one photo with a low res cell phone camera). This is my most recent "artwork." I actually still use some of it on soundcloud/bandcamp because I'm still waiting on my graphic designer brother to hook me up with some dope shit.

  5. really like these two. opening to eidolon really grabs you and the watery shimmering thing really runs through but evolves in a sophisticated way. Thanks man, glad you like them. Eidolon came together pretty quickly, but I think it's a keeper. for sure. for these ones, I appreciate that there is improvisation / in the moment kind thing, but I dunno, I subscribe to write drunk edit sober so it always seems worthwhile to come back to stuff with a fresh look Yeah, I totally agree. Much of what i've done in the last few months has been very 'in the moment' and improvisational, with a lot of one take experiments, etc, using a few different approches; the good thing is most of it is very re-approachable, modify-able and editable (and jesus/lucifer help me, remixable). I'm actually looking forward to improving some of this stuff for a release sometime in the future.

  7. I liked Sean's comparison of the upfront mixing of the 2014 AE_LIVE stuff to NTS DAEP FIELD. I like both approaches tbh. always thought Draft was strong in the deep mixing. Untilted too. edit: It's probably the right time to admit that I always wished that lush synth line near the end of Augmatic Disport was louder. I think I'm okay with it now though.
  8. oversteppy track is oversteppy. really nice! Thanks dude, worked out pretty well for a one track, one take jam. A few flaws i don't like, but w/e. Success. This track actually started out where i just wanted to run a synth in the background while i was doing something else, then i got dragged in lol.

  10. On a serious note, this song is definitely "walk out of the establishment"-able to me. There's a Denny's nearby that liked to play stuff like this so we stopped going.

  12. Yeah, I like both approaches and everything in between; sudden scene changes and gradual evolutions. I just want to be able to do all of the above.
  13. Everything I've been doing with MMR for rhythm and sequencing is (what i imagine is) super basic stuff in Max. For this one, as well as 16&16B, i'm using a step sequencer for the drums, and a markov chain on the synth (c minor, but it's almost irrelevant cause the melody rarely comes through). The variation comes from tempo multipliers, and weighted probability on a set of BPM tempos. Some of the others like 11,13,14 had some variation on pitch and decay of the drum hits as well. MMR 2 - 15 used probability on the actual time in milliseconds between notes rather than using a step sequencer. You'll notice with MMR that there's a lot of micro variation, but at the macro level it's essentially static. I'm working on fixing that. Or I'm supposed to be but instead i just keep jamming (as if i'm still banging on pots and pans cause I'm too lazy to put my new drum set together).

  15. I feel like i haven't quite figured out yet how to preserve the texture and punch that i want without leaving my tracks tiring to the ear, but I suppose i've made some progress over the years. Thanks about the style though... I'm sometimes worried about sounding like a watered down version of my influences, so distinct is good.

  17. Thanks dude. I'll take 'Osla for n'-like as high praise. That track is a serious grower. I was just listening your track Odland Forestal on the ae-thx tribute we were on a while back; such a badass, had a singular aesthetic to it. I kind of wish i could swap mine out for something better, or contribute to a second volume.

  19. Oh, good. I was afraid that one was a little sloppy and piercing in the high frequencies. Not really bothering with mixing or post-production at this stage.
  20. Sweet, thanks Darreich. I feel like i'm gearing up with certain tools and sounds and techniques right now, and i'm having a lot of fun. It's those dynamic structural changes that I need to figure out how I want implement.
