  1. Lee Anthony Norris (Metamatics) and Frank Rumpelt's (_Nyquist) 2ixrtam albums (currently pay what you want).
  2. I agree and I think that The OST's output is mildly interesting as someone's study in how to create and/or imitate a particular artist's oeuvre. I wholeheartedly agree with the notion that no artist owes their fans anything; I also disagree with the notion that artists are servants to their public because the public pays for their work - it's just a corollary to artists owing someone something. I, for one, would love to hear more Boards of Canada, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it nor I presume that it will happen because I (or anyone else) want(s) it to. There's an ocean of sound to trawl and listen to even without adding more to it.
  3. It's a pastiche, so it's tacky by definition.
  4. Why so serious? Of course someone trying really, REALLY hard to sound like BoC is cringeworthy, I'm just wondering how much work has been put into it.
  5. I know they're a pastiche, by Alexander Lynch Totheark - also here.
  6. I'll just drop this and this here, too ... I care because you do.
  7. That would be the backfire effect ... in effect. Cognitive biases are all fun and games.

    AE_STORE Is Live!

If I remember correctly, the vinyl version has "complete with surface noise"?
  9. Bola Soup = bowl of soup, Fyuti Bola = football, and Bola Gnayse. But what about Kroungrine and D.E.G.?
  10. DAT is Digital Audio Tape, the sound is just bits of data on the tape, basically the same as on CDs; so to change pitch, slow down or speed up the tempo, you'd need to do digital signal processing (timestretching and rescaling) - changing the speed of the tape does not work like with reel-to-reel tape, which you can manipulate in many different ways - but I do think that some DAT machines have a sample rate control feature, which could be used to slow down or speed up the audio. But as RDJ is a known circuit bender, he could have tweaked the deck himself - but then again, the tracks could've been manipulated after extracting them. Your guess is as good as mine, I guess.
  11. Definitely one of the best recent electro releases is SPECTRO-017 on Specimen with tracks by some of the best current electro artists: Arsonist Recorder (more tracks available on Zwaartekracht), Sound Synthesis, Francois Dillinger and Datawave (whose track reminds me of the awesome Simulant and Pollon releases on Scopex - get them on Tresor's compilation - unless you prefer to spend a few hundred on the originals). Carl Finlow's latest album, Apparatus, is out on 20/20 Vision, a label you can use as a stepping stone for more great electro: check out James Shinra (also here) , Versalife (here, too), Kosh and Reedale Rise. Labels to check out are Vortex Traks, Mechatronica, CPU, Electro Music Coalition, Blind Allies, Ukonx, Cultivated Electronics, Frustrated Funk... if you're into more melodic, emotional electro, check out Nebulae and Darren Nye. Look into Lou Karsh aka Reptant, Assembler Code, Jensen Interceptor and London Modular Alliance. If you need more, let me know.

    AE_LIVE

I already commented on the other thread about this, the chord progression sounds clean, dry and almost tinny compared to how it sounded like in situ in Helsinki. There's more meat on them bones on the surprisingly high quality bootleg recording of the gig - but of course nothing compares to having been there.

    AE_STORE Is Live!

I have it on good authority that something very special will be coming out on Likemind this year; there's a COVID-19 delay but when it drops, it will be the dog's bollocks. My jaw dropped when La Source EP on De:tuned was announced, previously unheard Nuron material is very few and very, very far between.

    AE_STORE Is Live!

The completely ridiculously massive chord track at 45 minutes in the Helsinki set just isn't the same as it was being there. The bootleg available on YouTube captures the moment better than the clean soundboard recording. Looking forward to listening through the rest of the lot.
  15. Could it be The OST ? There are also videos . It could be a pastiche, but if it is, it's a good one. But of course it is.
