  1. you guys getting a server error - can you PM me your soundcloud username? and what happens if you go back and try and login again, does it work then?
  2. Also it'll update with new tracks as options as more are uploaded
  3. Yep rdj has seen it and gave positive feedback. This will probably run for some time (likely many months) as he knows it'll take time for people to properly ingest all the tracks (people can go off tracks, change their mind etc) - and I'm hoping dearly we see many more. I'll host this thing for years if I need to... This is live and counting votes as of yesterday but there are some further improvements coming too - improving display on mobile devices, adding some playlist functionality in, etc. Feedback def welcome!
  4. Another WATMM'er has kindly assisted here and the results look ace - ta anyway!
  5. coming along well - hoping to put an initial version up this weekend had a few people on chatmm test basic functionality yesterday
  6. i think you guys are reading too much into this imo
  7. aaand he's renamed back. i figured he'd do this again, already locked down the user_id instead of the URL in the voting tool lul
  8. i severely doubt any potential poll has stopped new uploads from happening. will remind you lot that we've thought this was over several times now, and there were weeks between uploads
  9. yeah i'd totally buy a box set of the best of SC, even if that's like 6 CD's or 12 vinyls or whatever
  10. the 5 votes thing was a suggestion afx made, but i'm gonna guess this is a totally arbitrary number (the pertinent point being a limited set of votes), but i'll ask him in the next couple of days post here (look for the white background text): http://forum.watmm.com/topic/85636-richard-d-james-soundcloud-a-gift-to-the-fans/?view=findpost&p=2324608
  11. update - making decent progress on this, have a mostly functional frontend, just need to implement the backend. i've got a ton of ideas about how to make this even cooler but given it's a dynamic system i intend on adding to it over time - just want to get something that works up first. have had a rad offer of assistance with design from a fellow watmm'er, so hopefully it'll look the part too. will update soon!
  12. the experimental side of this is honestly a strong part of the allure. if the end result isn't too terrible i'll probably open source this and chuck it up on github to be used for other soundcloud artists - be interesting to see if other artists follow suit after this aphex thing (i.e. release a bunch of old tracks, have fans vote on a release). i can change the numbers too, 20 seems about right to make a selection for a double-CD/four-vinyl style release, but i'd argue there's *easily* far more than 20 strong tracks. any input/ideas appreciated :) don't want to over-complicate this though, the voting should be pretty simple/straight forward to do suggested to afx perhaps we do the voting based on a playlist he sets up (i.e. the AFX selekta playlist) so he has some control over what we vote for... probably makes a list far more manageable, but maybe he's curious whether we're all nuts about a track he doesn't personally rate so highly?
  13. i'm also probably going to spend a little longer on this if this will be a long running poll (i want to grab data over time, not just a simple vote, plus display it appropriately) so this might be a few days mre work now than something quick i'll chuck up tonight. if you're keen on providing feedback, PM me, i'll shoot some of you early versions for your input. i'd paste the link in here but i'd be worried people will start voting early - just keen to get the tracks displayed in a way that allows for minimal bias on voting.
  14. been chatting with afx on sc about this - relevant bits of what he said regarding voting/a release. that said, i'm fairly convinced he at least lurks here (he hasn't said that but given WATMM's involvement with the caustic window release et al, I'd say it's a safe bet, so hi rich :) and yes, i am already implementing this how he suggested (except more like ~top ~20 or so tracks, voting can be changed/updated at any time and it updates as tracks are uploaded, and i'll leave it up for a long time... fingers crossed we're seeing many more tracks!). will get back to coding :) hi , thanks, nice1 you think those SC stats are representative though? People also chnge their mind about what they like I think. I was thinking something like you have 5 votes or something and you can change those 5 votes when you like. I dont know how many pieces of vinyl ill release yet of it. Its quite a lot of work becuase Ill have to re-encode everything as all the files ive got that were uploaded to SC can be done a lot better +mastered by myself and with some help, IF the DAT's /cassettes still work! It will give me a good basis for compiling something, i wont compile it exactly as people have voted, just use it as strong start to compiling it myself . these stas are kinda useful for me but main problem is people go off tracks, change their mind etc, I know I do. So I think a dynamic one would be best, whereby you could change your votes. I also know people would be biased by looking at the stats so not sure the usefullness of it tbh Would do cd as well Would just be very useful for me, [i had my friends help me decide in the past now it's loads of fan's, ace!] as a basis of where to start and also probably put some other unreleased ones that I didnt put on SC also Maybe I can credit all the people who help by voting in the artwork :) ALso I intend to leave any polls that may be created up for as long as possible to allow people to digest but no harm in starting now if its dynamic.
  15. hullo keyfumbler, ltns! christ, you still use CD's? ;)
  16. this dude's YT videos are amazing [youtubehd]Fl_ZUsoDOBo[/youtubehd] [youtubehd]ggchpG9V-iY[/youtubehd] [youtubehd]8iZnFZaV2GY[/youtubehd]
  17. like I said in the other thread don't really see the harm in people voting in multiple polls? I'm creating a custom thing because I don't think a normal poll with 200 options is gonna work well
  18. Heres an idea... I just made a poll with this free "easy poll" site. I dont know how to enter all the tracks with out just copy/pasting each one in...one at a time... http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5559065de4b042eef174ef93 dont really know where to go from here... Ive made a throwaway email and account so i dont mind giving out login info. anyone got some free time? yo guys - am already working on this! it's a custom built thing that pulls up to date track info from soundcloud as tracks are added, and will do more than allow for a simple once off vote.
  19. oh god so i just uploaded a track to my own SC to see what it looks like from that end... and noticed this: "Quiet mode" - "Hide stats". Which according to the right you need a Pro account to unlock...... I'VE SCREWED MYSELF
  20. hahahah i'll be very disappointed with myself if that happens
  21. i just messaged him on soundcloud because... why the hell not
  22. just checked my android phone - same issue. (i'm probably hitting the same API the android app is anyway)
  23. i.e. this simple sortable table shows all tracks as of 60 seconds ago: http://catstick.com/soundcloud/afx/ unless rdj can flick back on these stats, using any sort of aggregate of stats over time is not going to work :( edit: tried it against mikep's soundcloud given ~200 tracks too, works fine, so reckon it's something rdj has flicked on a per-track basis?: http://catstick.com/soundcloud/mikep/
  24. guh, roadblock. so i've started off by making a scraper and a page that grabs all the track info + displays it in a way that we can sort by plays/comments/likes/etc. (i figured that would at least start to give some sort of indicator of most popular tracks that i can extrapolate from to assist with voting) many of the earlier tracks seem to have this stuff turned off though - look on soundcloud (as in the website) for tracks like 'red calx', both 'how to science', 'japan', etc. no stats showing under the tracks at all. i wonder whether rdj turned this off or it's soundcloud being stupid? :/ edit: 82/227 tracks have no info at all
