  1. I grunt from my mouth hole and people seem to understand. Or they’re just being sympathetic.
  2. Like something out of the hotel/restaurant in Spirited Away
  3. Why do you have the foot and leg of a very small person in your house? Have you been sneaking in to the Hunterian?
  4. Re-watching Mr. Robot while sleep deprived and occasionally high/drunk really imparts that feeling of paranoia that pervades the show.
  5. Same for me. Daily use of the language is a requirement to become fluent. Which is why my Korean is still pretty good (because I lived there for 10 years) whereas my French (second official language in Canada - and I “studied” for 10 years) is worse than my Japanese (I hear it/speak it everyday).
  6. There isn’t AFAIK but if you start one people will respond.
  7. It holds a special place in my heart as I went to a rave in a movie theatre in like 93 I think, my friend was dating a girl who sold, and she gave me some out of this world good acid, at some point the theatre owner put this on and I watched the second half, and I was pretty fucking high during the skeleton scene, when it finished, I jumped out of my seat yelling and screaming and then proceeded to dance to some crazed tribal techno. dominator. I think the CJ Bolland mix.
  8. https://www.reddit.com/r/AdamCurtis/comments/lhikmn/cant_get_you_out_of_my_head_mirror/ there’s a torrent link in there that’s pretty pretty decent.
  9. Yeah wife’s fam is from Sendai, thankfully everyone’s safe. NHK reporting no threat of tsunami.
  10. One too many beers last night, that last 9% scotch ale (while delicious) was probably a mistake. Struggling through online Japanese class now...
  11. This Gucci Doraemon crossover is hitting all the right notes
  12. Touch of Zen is great. I was thinking in terms of the eyecandy part - I don't even think Crouching Tiger is a top drawer wuxia, but it's a beautiful film.
  13. If you don't have a VPN, what about a magnet? Do they do any good?
  14. “Days of Heaven” is indeed a beautiful film that fits perfectly in the request.
  15. I don't know if it will be a favourite documentary, but Adam Curtis' new one came out yesterday: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p093wp6h/cant-get-you-out-of-my-head For non-UK folks, sorry you are shit out of luck
  16. The difference of course being that GBP are actually worth pushing around. Estimates from data centre usage (that's all data centres, not just financial institutions) indicate that BTC uses between 20% (in the article linked here) to almost half of data centre usage (in the uploaded article). Mining BTC is economically unsustainable, which should be obvious from its very design. When BTC mining facilities moved in to Quebec to take advantage of cheap energy rates from the use of hydro, they were using almost half of total generating capacity from the province. Renewable Energy Will Not Solve Bitcoin's Sustainability Problem As this article demonstrates, a better comparison is between payments systems: Comparing Bitcoin’s energy consumption to other payment systems To put the energy consumed by the Bitcoin network into perspective we can compare it to another payment system like VISA for example. According to VISA, the company consumed a total amount of 740,000 Gigajoules of energy (from various sources) globally for all its operations. This means that VISA has an energy need equal to that of around 19,304 U.S. households. We also know VISA processed 138.3 billion transactions in 2019. With the help of these numbers, it is possible to compare both networks and show that Bitcoin is extremely more energy intensive per transaction than VISA (note that the chart below compares a single Bitcoin transaction to 100,000 VISA transactions). The difference in carbon intensity per transaction is even greater (see footprints), as the energy used by VISA is relatively “greener” than the energy used by the Bitcoin mining network. The carbon footprint per VISA transaction is only 0.45 grams CO2eq. Maybe moving to proof of stake works, but proof of stake has not been settled as of yet (I believe). In the meantime, average (median) confirmation time for a Tx is around 10 minutes. Imagine standing around for 10 minutes while a Tx confirms for a cup of coffee. BTC energy usage.pdf
  17. The Orb: Abolition of the Royal Familia (Guillotine Mixes), which is much better than the original.
  18. Ashes of Time (don't get the redux version, they fucked with the colour scheme, it's awful) - as an aside, almost everything that Christopher Doyle (cinematographer on most of Wong Kar Wai's films) shoots is visually stunning. Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...and Spring. (Kim Ki Duk makes some brutal fucking movies, but this one is a piece of heaven put onto film) House of Flying Daggers, Raise the Red Lantern (a little more cerebral but not like Naked Lunch or Eraserhead good lord). Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Ang Lee made one of the most beautiful wuxia films I've seen, and I've seen a lot).
  19. Fuck yes. That's pure eye candy. Watch on the biggest screen at the best resolution you can.
  20. This is absolutely one of the best just balls-to-the-walls mindless action flicks ever. Tony Jaa's first two films (Ong Bak and Tom Yum Goong) are also right up there.
  21. I think about Ryan Gosling's smoldering eyes all the time...
  22. Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 once upon a time in Hollywood. gravity.
