  1. My doctor was like, don’t drink water after 9 if you have to wake up to pee. He then stuck his finger up my ass to check my prostrate and told me to relax when I was clenching. Fuck you doc. Fuck you. Also, my actual FWP is I can’t decide between a smoked porter or a coffee milk stout.
  2. The irony of Japanese people discussing racism and hostility toward foreigners should not be lost on anyone.
  3. I have never listened to more than 5 minutes of any podcast ever. Should I clean my room?
  4. Actually, no. Vague is not interesting. IMOBBQ
  5. Points to the "extremely vague things over and over" bit.
  6. So with all these paradoxes...how can we "stop our brains from over-relativizing the basics of human interaction?"
  7. So you've already gone past the most basic biological interaction, and things are already not well-understood. Even between two dudes (not gay, would you like a quick dock?)! I think what this establishes is that trying to provide simple answers to complex relations (which is what Jizzle Pizzle does) ain't gonna work, because hoomans are complex systems in an of themselves, let alone in pairs, family units, or...dare i say it...a society....
  8. Ummm I'm assuming you're talking about sexy time? Cause i gotta say, even that basic human interaction is fraught with pitfalls, and it always has been, at least for as long as I've been having sex, which is from like pre-history (did anything exist before the internet?).
  9. That's a bold claim. lol
  10. Yes it’s because they’re fatherless because the west and feminism have devalued men. It’s a crafty, vicious cycle.
  11. Not to belabour the Fukuyama point, as I think Fukuyama is generally a tit, but Fukuyama basically revised his theory in his next book (after the end of history). The end of history theory also received plenty of criticism from American scholars, including Fukuyama’s former mentor, Samuel Huntington. I do agree though that for some reason Fukuyama’s thesis got way too much air time. Chinese society has been pretty triumphalist for quite some time - I mean the whole reason the Brits went to war with them is because the Chinese had no desire to trade because they felt they had everything they needed, they were too good for the rest of the world. Chinese people are pretty happy to spew their Han chauvinism about 5000 years of history with great gusto. I’ll have a go at the book you recommended, maybe something more focused would provide better insight.
  12. Setting up another goddamn covid test. Another mild sore throat, with no other symptoms. Wish there was a way to skip the lengthy hotline preamble about every protocol.
  13. An interesting read, but he somehow refuses to acknowledge that Fukuyama has gone back on his “end of history” writings, and also somehow confuses Christopher Hitchens for an intellectual. He also somehow thinks China and India are not “triumphalist”, which is wild. And he comes across a bit as having the idea that no ally is good enough, but that may just be the editing of the article. It’s a bit of a meandering interview, but as I said, interesting.
  14. Can we just make this the general social media comment thread about music?
  15. Yes, as i've said in this thread, the bandcamp model is really preferable for me. Purchase of all sorts of media (physical/digitals), streaming, a variety of formats for downloading, no region restrictions etc. I really hope more and more artists go to bandcamp. For artists with a large back catalogue, Uwe Schmidt provides an excellent example of how to transform that back catalogue into something cohesive. And the AtomTM_Audio_Archive is really a remarkable achievement. Speaking of, tomorrow is payday - time to reup on my Colundi habit.
  16. Maybe, but as the spotify lawyer said, its like radio plus...that user focused experience. I hardly ever listen to the radio shows that apple music has for example, whereas i will stream music that i own but either don't have access to (my record collection remains in korea with my friend) or am too lazy to find the hard drive its on. The thing that's frustrating is that there is much more possibility with the internet, and labels have less power (though they still function as good indicators of aggregate sound or curators), but artists need a very strong union, or Spotify et al. will fuck them over harder than the labels/A&R men ever did.
  17. Some more recent info on potential for regulation (or not): https://musically.com/2021/02/23/spotify-apple-and-amazon-at-the-uk-streaming-economics-inquiry/ It’s all pretty vague as you’d expect from general counsel.
  18. Yeah my friend is one of the two being held in retaliation for the arrest of Meng. So I worry that China might drum up more charges and give them both the death sentence.
  19. Yes the mental element is difficult to prove for sure - there needs to be access to records, communications, etc etc. To be honest, I'm very surprised that Canada took the stance we did, and I fear for my friend being held in China. I wonder how zeff would feel if a similar letter had been written about US activities at Guantanamo.
  20. Proof that Santa Claus exists: https://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2011/12/21/Barack-Obamas-Letter-to-Santa
  21. That’s a letter to the UN, it’s not a refutation of any kind.
  22. Yeah that sounds like a serious violation of the city bylaws. Ottawa is bad for it, you can legally start construction at like 6am and go until 10pm. Vancouver is the opposite. Like 9-5 on weekdays and 11-3 on weekends. They can be strict about it too.
