  1. That's very good, but I'm sorry to make this request: could you put his thumb on the side of the case, like he's holding it? It's just so close to being perfect.
  2. I know what you mean about the "worth the wait?" question, but I've gotten around it in my thinking. Something clearly happened in BOC's life, and whatever it was, it's none of my business. On the other hand, I've been enjoying a lot of great new music in the interim: Bibio, Emeralds, Oneohtrix, Locust, "The Revenant Diary", KTL's soundtrack to "The Phantom Carriage", etc. And now here's BOC's return. Whatever the issue was, I don't care--I'm rejoicing in this awesome beast of a fucking album, and I can't wait to have a copy in my sweaty, hairy palms!
  3. I've only had one complete listen-through (the live stream, which was kinda spotty in terms of quality playback on my end, at least) and a few listens to a couple tracks here and there. I haven't downloaded the illegal copies since I'm in the states and I prefer to listen to music I paid for only. That said, there's no way I'm at all disappointed in this album. I'm a bit surprised in the wide range of subtle emotion, but pleasantly so. I'm so looking forward to my physical copies. I'm going to tack up my artcards on the wall and blast that motherfucker until my neighbors call the cops.
  4. That's annoying and weird that they updated the interview. But I'm glad they did (they should have published it this way at the start!). But the three book recommendations are interesting. I read excerpts of the Oliver Sacks book Mike mentioned, and I heard an interview with him on NPR. It was very interesting. I'm going to check out the other two. I would love to chat with them about their reading interests more.
  5. Aw, shucks, goDel. I'm not sure I get this new speak of which you suggest, but I'll give it a shot: "I can has sauce?" How'd I do?!
  6. It's an official photograph--it's been on Warp's page for a few days now. Click the announcement about record store play.
  7. I also immediately thought FSOL ("Far Out Son of a Lung," specifically), but I like it. It reflects the good era of FSOL, not what happened to them during the "Isness" period. To be honest, I was a bit worried that BOC would return with a similar thing, since they kept saying that their new album would be unrecognizable. But I was pleasantly surprised with how much TH evoked the good work of the 90s, including FSOL's "Dead Cities".
  8. as is the mcdonald's So true.
  9. That flag in the background is too perfect.
  10. Are there any zany students of analytic philosophy? Oh, sure. The best ones are typically both serious and zany.
  11. Kanye is an outrageous person "by definition", apparently. As a serious student of analytic philosophy, I fucking hate how that phrase is misused and cheapened. No one is any sort of person "by definition". Kanye's outrageousness is an accidental mode, a contingent property. He's not a fucking word.
  12. God, that article sucks. "Track-by-Track" preview, but it only discusses less than half of the tracks. Also, what's with the claim that the album has been influenced by dubstep. No other preview has mentioned that, and nothing I heard suggests this. And these references to "Digital Mystikz" or whatever as BOC's alleged influences? Implausible. FInally, saying that "Reach for the Dead" was the only "leaked" track betrays a failure of understanding what the word "leaked" means.
  13. Great. Now I'll have to endure some more good music that's being fisted by some of the most consistently cliche, cringe-inducing lyrics ever shouted/whispered by an emo-dad. At that thought, I'm slipping on the tears they've made me cry. BUT THAT'S WHAT I GET(ah).
  14. I'm a close follower of NPR, and to my knowledge, this is the first time (long overdue) that the network wrote up an article about the band. http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2013/05/22/186075183/boards-of-canada-share-new-video-song About time.
  15. That fake "Telepath" sounds like a spruced-up version of the "Shenmue" soundtrack.
  16. It seems like a clear case of buyer's remorse; as triachus said, they invested so much energy in making that "cover story" that they were much more likely to talk themselves into liking the album, no matter how lame it turned out. That's the optimistic interpretation. My preferred, pessimistic interpretation: pitchfork is fucking corrupt and their lining their pockets with money from Big Record Label. This interpretation is consistent with that Justin Timberlake garnering a "Best New Music" title. There's no way that "RAM" is better than "Silver Wilkinson". FUCK PITCHFORK.
  17. Somebody called our attention to this earlier: on Bleep's product description for this album, it merely says something like "The day we thought would never arrive...". Maybe there's a double-meaning here, but taken at face-value, that's a douchey thing for Bleep to write. Isn't Bleep a subsidiary of Warp? So, as representatives of Warp, doesn't this comment kinda make Bleep sound like whiny bitches? I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm not unsympathetic to the point they're making (again, prima facie interpretation), but it's not very professional for the label or its commercial distributor to bitch about the wait in the goddamn product description, right? What about something along the lines of "We have all been looking forward to this for a very long time, ..." or "We are proud to announce the long-awaited return of...", etc.?
  18. There was a headline that said something about a server migration, for tonight, I think.
  19. Jesus Christ, just release the MP3s already, Bleep! Is there really any good reason to hold out on it like this?
  20. When is the listening-party? Where? How many people will be there? Apparently Berlin. They're being all secretive to prevent leaks, the guy may even have to sign some papers that he doesn't record anything (speculation). This sounds like a wind-up but I'm actually for real - if he tells (about the album's style, whether it's an Ambient-release or not), I'll tell. When is it? Is it May 20th?
  21. When is the listening-party? Where? How many people will be there?
  22. I agree. Given that they have the means to do this and the precedent, they have good reason to do this.
