  1. I just want to be clear that I wouldn't hold it against Richard, Grant, Rephlex, or Warp if the discogs listing was partly posted to help generate buzz (as well as pay off debts: why not both at the same time, right?). Actually, I think that's very smart, and it was no less interesting at the time when it happened, regardless of the motivations. I don't think it should really matter why it was listed and eventually morphed into the kickstarter thing. Frankly, I'm just super-happy there's new Aphex and that we got a rare classic as part of the process. If that also helped to get him more attention via a fun, alternative method, even better. Hopefully it helped bring more fans to Aphex!
  2. Yeah, I've read all that, too. I understand that Grant needed the money. But that is a coincidence that is also quite an opportunity, isn't it? That discogs listing created quite a buzz when it was found, shortly after some jokey post on FACT magazine's website. Wasn't that the same news outlet that had a history of similar jokey posts about other big-name Warp artists. Just a coincidence, I guess.
  3. That seems to suggest (as I've suspected) that this has been a process that's been a while in the making, and that the Discogs listing of "Caustic Window LP" was part of the plan all along.
  4. Don't mean to brag or anything but I don't live in New Zealand :) Don't mean to lol or anything.... but LOL Anything or mean but to LOL ... brag don't
  5. There is nothing more sublime in the quiet still mornings than "Rifts" while I prepare for work: http://youtu.be/A5r1T2gRX_4
  6. Well put. I share your hopes. Enjoy the premiere!
  7. You just came in here to try to piss on everyone's parade? We're all excited and looking forward to "SYRO". If you're not, that's fine, but you know what this thread is here for, and you know what you're doing. Go fuck a duck.
  8. no, haven't seen anything yet. keeping my eyes peeled as well. warp did announce via twitter when the UK entries were closed and emails were being distributed. no word about USA. Yeah, still on pins and needles here. Waiting to hear about this, waiting for some other work-related things.
  9. The mail I just received was a direct response to my original RSVP mail - which I sent to an address that was hand-written on the card by the guy at my local record shop, I think the staff had been instructed to do it that way. Also, there is no unique ID on the ticket card, it really is Willy Wonka lockdown business, ie you must present a ticket as well as personal ID. Long story short, I didn't win an additional ticket, I guess they're mailing out to both the ticket draw winners and those who RSVP'd from cards they obtained instore all in one go. Thanks for the clarification. It's all a bit confusing and exciting. I entered for that; no email yet.
  10. Congrats! Me too! Didn't you already get a ticket, jasondonervan? If so, are you giving your spare ticket away? (I don't live anywhere near London, so I'm not asking selfishly; just curious.)
  11. Excellent photoshop job, phudoshin! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. For christ's sake, would you please just shut up and stop speculating about new Aphex music? Geez.
  13. Come on, you lucky (little) man!
  14. They probably won't have time to mail out tickets, though. I'd expect that your name will be on a list.
  15. No question. Exai fucking rocks. Everything about it is excellent. The art (especially the vinyl version) is perfect (fuck the haters), the tunes are great, the length is great (fuck the haters), and even the titles are great. RECKS ON!! LP5 was my favorite before, but this one takes the cake. Keep it coming, Ae! Yeah, I basically expressed the same feeling in the Syro thread. I'm sorry to admit that this is true.
  16. yeah but what if the man himself made a special appearance at some of the listening parties? Why else would the listening parties have staggered dates? lol Doubtful he'll be in NYC and LA in the same night.
  17. Too bad there hasn't been that much news over the past week. It's hard to be excited about a listening party announcement when it depends on another lottery thing. Also, I'd have to travel for about 3 hours to get to the nearest city that is hosting the listening party in my region, so given my obligations, that's not very attractive.
  18. rules the read That's a pretty good mix, though. I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole thing (I gotta run), but I liked what I heard.
  19. That's slimy: claiming ownership of a creative project title because of pieces of paper, not because they've had anything to do with the art behind it. Doesn't surprise me that some lame suits would pull that move, though.
  20. That is pretty fucking cool. Thanks for sharing.
  21. I think that it's reasonable to suppose that Warp might hassle Aphex for material, but I also think that there is good reason for them to *not* hassle him. For one thing, when great artists release material more sporadically like this, it helps to generate interest in the fan base, which becomes infectious to the more general public. It's like the rubber-necking phenomenon on the highway when there are lots of cop cars and flashing lights--people who are normally not invested become interested. Likewise, when the general public sees a small subset of the group going apeshit because of a new release from an artist they love, the typical non-fan becomes interested somewhat and has the potential to become a new fan, too. Also, I'd imagine there is a delicate psychological game going on here: I can't imagine how difficult it must be to handle a group of super-talented artists. I know it's a stereotype, but gifted artists tend to have a reputation for having unique emotional and pyschological quirks. As someone on the Warp team, you probably don't want to ruin a relationship with one of those artists. So I'd imagine they think very carefully about asking for new material: they probably even take a hands-off approach. I'd expect that if I were an artist on this roster, I'd want to not be smothered or nagged, at any rate. Warp probably expects that this is how their artists feel, too. There is no evidence to suggest that Richard has unique emotional and psychological quirks. Got me there. I guess we need to wait and find out more about this mystery man behind "The Aphex Twins" before we jump to any conclusions.

  23. Warp HQ, today... 9:00am, Boardroom: PR crisis meeting, AKA 'what jasondonervan did' Yeah, that was pretty amazing. Kudos again, donervan!
  24. ...So, anyways, I'm really excited about this new Aphex Twin album. It seems like there's something interesting and new about "Syro" that pops up daily--I wonder what will come up today.
