physical? … or oddly visible live download? why doesn’t the email or website say?

i wouldn't be surprised if it's somehow a byproduct of the design of the AR imagery - needs to be a certain dimension or resolution or similar ... or it won't read?

what's the best contact for warp via email? i've tried to ask about the CD packaging for this release, as it's got no insert or edge to hold the disc in and it falls out. getting nor reply, tried twice. the bleep store said they'd pass along word on my behalf. no real joy so far. anyone help?
  4. pikmin 4. always sold on the franchise. always found the apparent dismissive attitude towards it as childish to be a mistake. this time around, they seem to have lost sight of it, lost a little confidence in the weird, isolated world. it's now got more characters than makes sense. put them to work, instead of the pikmin, perhaps? they just seem to be stood around. needs a mode for experienced players and a lot less interruptions. sadly, overall, this reminds me of the simpsons episode where they added poochie into itchy and scratchy. misjudged somewhat.

i listened to it on my brothers. bryston pre and power amps. didn't improve it. i did the same with syro when that came out. the mixes are all over the place on that. sounded intentional, as though scraped from across many years of work.

i've asked bleep / warp about a potential issue with CD sleeve. no response other than bleep saying they'll pass it along. no edge on either side of where disc is held, no inner sleeve. tale the wrapping off and disc slides out as it's too wide. cheapest looking CD presentation ive seen in some years.

my CD just arrived in the UK. ordered via ebay. shipped yesterday.
  8. damiano damiani's 'day of the owl'. i would like to see more of these more dialogue-heavy italian films that have a sociopolitical streak, especially for the nihilism. they're few on the ground afaik. 'bullet for the general' remains a favourite from damiani, for it's photography and punchier narrative. this one is oddly restricted or claustrophobic for the most part, despite the summertime sicily square that's a central location, with interior questioning taking place. franco nero is a carabinieri trying to deal with the local mafia don. one murder, one missing. resolves quite well, and has lots to think about, but misses some great potential and is little too modest or under explored overall. i notice 'illustrious corpses' and 'lucky luciano' from francesco rossi get mentioned alongside this as a sort of loose genre from italy, less like police dramas and more like gangster / political dramas - less action, more ideas - but both USA discs are poor apparently. anyone know more of this style of film? i especially liked vittorio salerno's 'no the case is happily resolved' which arrow later rereleased after a good german edition some years back. another film with the same title is in this boxset. https://www.mondo-digital.com/nocase.html
  9. i’ve thought this since release. if stretched to the right extent, some might be album length tracks in their own right? always just sounded too fast at the tempo they were released in. as though he was experimenting with making long and slow then truncating with upping the rpm.

i think that soundcloud dump wasn't as free as we thought at the time.

... anyone worked out why this is so expensive yet? i'm half wondering if this is actually an album masquerading as an EP. if we will buy it and find it's really long and has lots of hidden stuff.

minimal? no. don't agree. it's very identifiable as his work. but then ... when your initial work is vastly different from the majority over the decades, the original impression people got is a distant memory and feels like holding onto something that's somehow long dead. when you're there at the time, the several years over which those early EPs and couple of albums appear, they have the power to form an expectation in your mind. looking back, or coming in anywhere from say 1995 onwards, it's all twisted jokes and creepy crossover stuff.

i think it's like an AI infected track with lots of drum n bass samples fed into it. an exercise in coding, rather than writing a good central idea. i am one of those RDJ fans that's largely 'out' even before ICBYD. not because they're no good, but because they're not as good. the minimalism impressed me more. can anyone find a central idea as devastating as 'stone in focus' in his work? i think it's so well judged. this newer stuff is impressive production skills, shuffling all over the place unnecessarily.

i don’t know what’s going on with versions and downloads and that. i do know £10 for an ep on cd is nuts. richard is passing on his cost of living crisis.
  15. the show was 2008-2009. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Omid_Djalili_Show i only posted it as a joke in response to a need for an explanation on eurovision. it had been tweeted by djallili as the contest was this past weekend. it wasn't especially funny when it was broadcast, but it is part of his schtick - given his parentage and mix of cultural experiences.

  17. i went to see him and lopatin at the RFH about ten years ago. they had a massive room and a tiny PA. sounded so distant and weedy. almost walked. still baffled as to why i didn't. the performance felt like it was mimed, as it so clearly felt like it was just the album they did from start to finish.
  18. i had engravings and dagger paths many years ago. also found them pretty straightforwards. perhaps i would have to spend far more time and money buying stuff to try out new releases to find a small handful of things that really work. that's a fine approach if you can afford it, but ... i can't.
  19. gave it a try. pretty naff to my ears. still looking.
  20. i'm not yet convinced by either albums, but i do return to "with u". i've never heard another artist quite like it, despite some of the sounds are like art of noise samples, so i wonder if anyone else has? is this really a genre? slow house doesn't seem to cover it. it's not one-dimensional, it's expansive and quite easy to connect with.
  21. coroner. fourth series. probably final. serinda swan has left. main reason i was watching. anyway ... had more promise at S1, and it ebbed away. stories and filming very much like daytime tv movies, but with OTT corpse special effects and crime scenes. oddball characters that became increasingly plain. went for the bizarre anime-like ending where all logic went to the wall and it was impossible to tell what was going on. at least, i couldn't. was a bit like going demob happy and using the results anyway. shame.
  22. some vegan products might simply be declaring the production line is clean of possible contamination from non-vegan (meat) products.
  23. my brother's finished it now. i thought it had a serious problem with a LOTR influence. pretty to look at, lots of unnecessary and convoluted dialogue. i've can't remember a game so widely praised that i thought was fundamentally flawed. very ordinary gameplay, small areas and tight camera, grinding with unnecessary activities like hopping over logs, climbing inexplicable gaps and ledge. completely disconnected from it's origins and identifying characteristics. the last game was far better, and was a good evolution, but this just felt like hard work.
  24. some will be making conclusions prematurely, others will be theorising, proposing ideas, and be taken to be premature conclusions because most people are looking for absolutes without realising there's a long refinement and reassessment, or intentionally seeking elements that support their own bias if twisted or removed from context for their own distorted purposes. this will be science front and centre in people's lives when it's usually not. beyond most of our experience or expertise, and taking us all a while to adjust to considering those issues and systems that are long-established but and probably the greatest example of something that's more often uncertain than not. they're assumed to be easy to understand because the talking points are the tail-end of what's being undertaken, the simplified and condensed communication of it as it currently may be, and there will be public attempts that amount to the inexperienced acclimatising to how ongoing study works. we've seen something similar with politics in the last few years, and people whose backs have been put up by the need for sudden unusual intervention with measures ... highlighting party or governmental politics being beyond most people's daily concerns, when these things are always shifting or appearing and impacting lives in the background, but don't require such public and wholesale announcements because they're not so immediately relevant to everyone. we will see long covid continually return to public attention over the decades.
