Cloud Atlas - get's lost in its own pretentiousness whilst trying hard to be a deeper and more meaningful film than it actually is. The Oriental sci-fi bit was ok but I found it a mish mash of good and bad with no focus or real thought to the ending. 6/10 A Dose of Reality - a bizzare improbable scenario that tries to tie it all together with a few surprise twists and turns. Fairuza Balk makes the film watchable but the rest of the few weaker cast members aren't helped by a bland script. 4/10 The Dark Knight Returns Parts 1&2 - Animated adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic novel that shows where Nolan got a lot of his ideas from although this is tons better. Part 1 has an excellent story and Part 2 gets really epic especially with Superman 8.5/10.

/\ I think the Matrix ripped of Existenz in concept (amongst others) and speaking of Cronenburg.... Antiviral - Brandon Cronenberg's debut makes compelling viewing even if it does got lost in its own surreal concept from time to time. 7/10 The Darkest Hour - Starts as a promising better than average apocalyptic invasion flick then just runs into a brick wall at the end. 5/10 Flight - With Robert Zemekis directing with Denzel Washington playing a cool coke head airline pilot in crisis you'd expect more than a very bland run of the mill drama. Worth watching the first 5mins as you get to see Catalina from My Name is Earl absolutely starkers. 4/10 Offender - modern British juvenile prison flick trying to tread in the footsteps of Scum and whilst not as gritty does a very good portrayal of modern day hoodie style criminals thanks to its strong cast (the main bad guy is very well done). A little overdone in places but a surprisingly well made film with a good soundtrack. 8/10 Vanishing Point (1997) - The Lazerhawk King of the Streets video made me hunt this down. A nice low budget TV movie with decent B class stars that has the charm of the classic 80's American chase films with Viggo Mortensen playing a cool lead role. 7/10 Infected - Michael Madsen shooting zombies with a shotgun plus a few tits thrown in. stopped after 15mins/10

Wasn't crazy about the end of God of War Ascension, the gameplay relied too much on the special weapons and I couldn't help feel a little robbed at the very end which a simple quicktime farce albeit quite violent but not where near as epic as the previous games but then again how could it be. The puzzles were pointlessly simple and I didn't like they way they've dicked around with the controls making it more like a dedicated beat em up rather than a calculated scrolling slasher.

this sadly explains everything! doesn't Hollywood learn? I can't say I have high hopes for Blade Runner as trying to emulate a classic always results in a failed inferior revisit when it should just be its own film, this is exactly what happened with Star Trek.

Star Trek into Darkness - was ok until the end where it turned into a cringy predictable parody which spoiled the film for me. A sci-fi with plenty of Trek but little actual conceptual sci-fi to the storyline. Abrams shaky camera style hid the flaws in some flakey action sequences and was not comfortable to watch in 3D which also went for the constant chase sequences which seem to be his trademark on the franchise. Cumberbatch stole the show even if he looked a little like a pterodactyl when ever he talked. Had its moments but not as good as the other one/10.

Apparently Lucas is the type of guy who will come up with 100 ideas of which 90% are total shit which is why the first Star Wars films worked as he always had the production company to tell him when something was shit. With Empire he was only the producer making the biggest sequel of its time however he broke loads of union rules by making the crew work stupid hours due to his obsessively high standard and the budget to pursue it. Come to Jedi and Lucas had to find a lot of crew who weren't in this film union and unfortunately included Spielberg who was set to direct it after the successful collaboration on Raiders a few years before and is the reason the film is OK but a bit meh next to the previous two. Trivia; the Ewoks were originally intended to be Wookies but Lucas saw the toyline potential of tribal teddy bears to be a more of a money spinner. More forward 15yrs and a massive toy franchise Lucas now owns his own production company so he is surrounded by a load of 'yes sirr' arse lickers all on his payrole and without anyone to pull the rains he releases the prequel atrocities that he produces/directs all himself after directing no film since episode IV. Selling to Disney can only be a positive thing (well it can't get any worse) but I fear a bubble gum churnout that won't be terrible but just another ok sci-fi especially with Abrams. THX1138 is basically 1984 with a more technological and modern social satirical edge to it. To me it looks more like an 80's indie flick rather than something from 1971 and although he bastardised the original Star Wars trilogy with horrendous extra scenes and CGI the rework of THX1138 isn't overdone and the movie benefits as a whole but you can still see elements that filter though into Star Wars especially with the sound design.

Robot and Frank - good light hearted fun that rolls along at a nice steady pace. Frank Langella plays the perfect grumpy old man bundled with the Hal esque deadpan robot which holds the film together. Avoid watching the trailer as it kinda spoils some bits. perfect daytime hangover film/10 Into the Wild - very stylish and well shot biopic directed by Sean Penn. Gets a little long winded at times but the film really has a genuine depth, warmth and charm. indie gem/10. Doesn't Sorcerer have a Tangerine Dream soundtrack? gonna hunt that one down ;)

I like it I think you needed a loud system to get the most out of the scares as a lot of it worked at the cinema. The end kinda loses its impact and tries to carry the rest of the film with a typical Del Torro tragic romantic ending which was better than a lot of other Hollywood fodder.

There are ways for killing animals for food and slowly hacking though its belly while its screaming isn't one of them. from IMDB - Seven animals (a coatimundi, a turtle, a spider, a snake, two squirrel monkeys, and a pig) were actually killed, with six of them for the camera. The monkey scene had to be filmed twice, so even though only one is seen dying, two were killed. Because they were filming deep in the Amazon rain forest and there were no studio representatives or controls to prevent them from killing animals (though several crew members protested and even walked off the set). According to a report by the Associated Press, animal wranglers hired to oversee some 150 animals used in the films say 27 of them died because they were housed on a treacherous farm full of “death traps,” including bluffs, sinkholes and jagged fencing. The dead include a miniature pony called Rainbow, hired as a hobbit horse, who crashed off a bank on the farm and broke his back. I actually watched the predecessor Fast Five which isn't too bad considering what it is. Sure it has its shit bits and Vin Diesel is as wooden as a spoon but the Rock fitted his role well, the editing was good and the finale chase at the end was quite innovative even if the camera work could have been better 6.8/10.

Confirmed. I do like the intro/music, I watched the uncut version years ago, wasn't too sure what to make of it...couldnt decide if it was good or bad, shocking or stupid. I think it left me cold, apart from the wonderful music above. I made it about 15mins in and turned it off after they slowly carved up that live rodent and started to show real execution footage. It's just the worse excuse for film making.

they've dumbed down the controls a bit and the story isn't as epic as 2&3 but the graphics and sound are stunning this boss is only the first level!

Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters - the OTT violence and good head splatters made this farce actually quite bearable 6.8/10
