  1. great, you made me click on a Sun link.
  2. Jewish groups ‘highly concerned’ at Wong’s Middle East comments, as Marles says Australian Jews don’t feel safe how dare they be told to stop bombing hospitals. this is very frightening for people ensconced on the other side of the world, who are after all the real victims here.

privacy is set to become a thing of the past. even if you have been scrupulous since day one and never uploaded a picture of yourself anywhere ever, the technology has gotten so good now that you can be cross-checked and identified in an instant. and it's been out there and in secret hands for a while already.
  4. failed opportunity to say "Now's Not The Tim". edit: who tf is Tim, I'm not even following this shit. the minutiae of American politics are enough to bore any normal person's brains out of their ears
  5. I think you're conflating a few things here: atheism isn't synonymous with enlightenment and perfect worldviews/behaviour. atheists are just as susceptible to greed, selfishness, unconscientiousness and bigotry as anyone else. plenty of atheist hacks out there making money on speaking tours catering to bigots, adding no value to the world and solving zero problems. christianity isn't synonymous with the right-wing. you don't have to adopt a different faith to be able to shit on another for $$$ and clout. these topics are separate and not directly relevant to the issue being discussed here. I was just pointing out these guys' agenda and how they're misrepresenting a party to the conflict. the ex-Muslim community and its ins and outs are not what's important here - though I will just add that leaving the religion is not as terrifying an experience as it is popularly imagined to be, particularly if you're living in the west. this is a Palestinian issue, not a Muslim one. it's only because ignorant people insist on making this a clash of civilisations rather than a basic human rights and international law issue that the subject of Islam (and its supposed horrors and barbarity as personified by Hamas) even comes up. with respect etc
  6. this is bullshit. it should concern you that you haven't seen through it. though this is harder to navigate for people not from the Muslim world, I'll concede. this is projection and spin by a minority of dogmatic, co-opted (or trying to be co-opted) ex-Muslims living comfortable lives overseas, not representative of Iran or the Muslim world as whole. I know this type of ex-Muslim well. they're desperate to align themselves with the west, mostly out of self-interest. the kind who publish books catering to Islamophobes about their 'journey to enlightenment' and become writers for right-wing media outlets, hoping to be poster kids for the west's cultural superiority. they're not interested in actually bettering the lives of anyone, certainly not the people who are, on an undeniable physical level, still their own blood. rather they whitewash themselves as hard as they can and cheerlead for western causes that will bring them money and attention, eventually getting so good at it that they become indistinguishable from any other right-wing hack. we have a great Iranian example here in Australia - she's quite far along the hack lifecycle, you'll notice. these types can have some facts correct about extremist/jihadi ideology but the way they employ these facts, their arguments and their overall aim are all fundamentally untrustworthy. the picture amongst ordinary Iranians on this specific issue is certainly more complex: ordinary Iranians, even if they're tired of the pernicious influence of the theocracy on their day to day lives, will still be mostly anti-Israel for cultural reasons if not religious ones. this is the kind of misrepresentation that you will be fed if you get suckered by the algorithm.
  7. on the list, cheers. I have also queued up The Realm, another by Rodrigo Sorogoyen, director of As Bestas. didn't know who he was till now but he looks to have a number of other promising films under his belt. they'd probably be more accurately billed as Sorogoyen + Isabel Pena, the scriptwriter he frequently works with.
  8. Indeed, this one stayed with me for a bit! True story too. this is my kind of shit. I hadn't heard of it until now. I'm sure it's going to be a deeply uncomfortable viewing experience.
  9. on a personal level, the shitposting around this specific issue has been the final realisation for me of how stupid and vacuous and deserving of scorn American "liberal" celebs are (pretending they're a monolith for a second). I didn't entirely grasp why, outside of comedic purposes, people occupying various positions on the political spectrum (particularly further left) would all unite to shit on celebs when it seemed that a lot of their views were basically ok, in a sort of liberal starter-pack sense. with an issue like this though, the inadequacies become glaringly obvious and it's so clear that their moral character is nothing more than a cardboard cutout animated jerkily in front of a crowd for applause. this seems really obvious to say if you're used to this kind of cultural phenomenon in the States but I'm only just realising this on an instinctive level now.
  10. I was more referring to the fact that crypto was touted as the next stage of human evolution in the original thread title before it got edited and mashed together with another thread
  11. https://www.crikey.com.au/2023/10/27/gaza-city-hospital-power-loss/ (edit: trigger warnings are usually just some zoomer bullshit but one is genuinely warranted here - this video will fuck up your day, proceed with caution)
  12. same logic also applies to reposting/signal-boosting content from bad sources, even if "they got there first".
  13. resist this. even if it shows you content that jives with your opinions. people should be a lot more circumspect about who they give their clicks.
  14. ^ I'm glad I didn't get sucked into that bullshit. (but then I ended up getting sucked into Warframe so the final joke's on me) the concept of slow sniping is creasing me up.
  15. you should really vet your sources better. a cursory look at this guy's wikipedia page shows he's fundamentally untrustworthy. I'm not sure how this discussion of the Russia/Ukraine war is relevant itt anyway.
  16. so no one told you life was gonna end this wayyyy
  17. the capacity for evildoing is inherent in man and exists beyond religion or any sort of surface-level belief system. it's too easy to whip out the "ahh it's religious nutjobs" argument all the time. religion amplifies the hate factor but it isn't the sole reason for how the conflict arose or why it persists. you can't ignore the history of the region and its peoples, even if you're searching for a single undercutting explanation. if you did want to explain it as simply as possible, you'd be closer saying something like "western meddling in the region". that's really what it boils down to: the ill-conceived creation of Israel as a western sort of neo-colonialist expansion project, forcibly displacing the local peoples that were living in relative peace before. as well as the subsequent stoking of neverending conflict by providing endless arms, money and political support to this pet state and repeatedly stalling attempts at having it achieve some kind of equilibrium with the region through a viable peace process. America truly deserves a large chunk of the blame for this shit, like at least 50%. I don't think you guys realise that as you watch the deaths on your screens. if enough of you did, you could enact meaningful change by demanding your leaders take a more balanced and neutral approach to this conflict rather than being partisan, because it's this very being partisan that has led to the deaths you're watching. consider yourself lucky. he's a useless hack who spun his bullshit on Fox for years and is now doing it independently. there is absolutely nothing to be gained from listening to these types, they will say whatever to drum up viewership and revenue which is the only thing that matters to them. best to ignore them.
  18. I hope someone shoots Michael Rapaport in his yapping mouth. jk lol lmao
  19. interested. I watched the Panos Cosmatos one because, well, it's Panos Cosmatos. I don't really have any interest in the rest.
  20. imma pass then tbh, I think this approach is ultimately a disservice to the viewer and to a better understanding of things generally.
  21. a bit of levity as a reprieve from watching the horrors unfold. you can always rely on celebrity stupidity.
