After reading about chickenhawks, seems there is a whole trail of death and destruction in Hollywood from lust, drugs and abuse. Renfro and Phoenix the end of a very sordid line that was publicised with Polanski and Nicholson and teenage girls in the 70s.

Yes but it has a scotsman speaking russian! I love the way the film changes language to English, I remember Sean Connery kills a comrade then turns Scottish. Worth it for seeing Alec Baldwin trying to be James Bond.

Halfway through Frank Miller Robocop compendium of his screenplay for Robocop 2. Very similar to the film to be fair, some of the OCP adverts are directly the same. Worth reading as it the art style is like some dripping candle wax version of Detroit. Pay attention to the state of Robocop's car, something the film missed.

Split Second! Not content with wearing Galliano on Blade Runner he then goes Vivienne Westwood in the future. Looks to imhabit the same London of the future as Paul Anderson's Shopping. Interestingly they got the spectacles bang on.

off topic, but: i'm desperately looking for a film that is about an evil severed hand walking around on its fingers (and probably killing people and stuff). i've seen that one maybe 10 or 15 years ago on tv, and it had a scene in it where a whole bunch of hands sit in a tree like a flock of birds... that image kind stuck with me since could this be it? or any suggestions, anyone? thx Eric Red's Body Parts?

HAHAHA! I can really picture this! Take it back to the island Arnie was from to find Eddie Murphy.. The thing is this is not a terrible film, it would be a comedy masterpiece.

Faecal attraction - Michael Douglas and her from the first one reprise their roles, but this time attracted to the smell of each others faeces. It gets really messy as Michael Douglas has been living on nutritional drinks owing to his illness and his faeces resembles the water pus from a burst blister. BBFC warning before the film: Warning contains scenes of urine passing from anus.

The I Ching - story of a money obsessed narcissist from New York who suddenly has a heart attack, she awakes and finds that she is not alone. The film depicts several afterlife scenarios - reincarnation, heaven, hell, nothing, redemption, the buddhist void - the film is told through a first person perspective of the main character so you never see her gender until the very last shot of the film which is her laying in her penthouse flat downtown, about to die and we suddenly see her reflection in a window to reveal its a woman all along. Let's build the mind's eye stereotyping of the viewer who will invariably believe the lead to be a male.

Salvador - Oliver Stone indie flick released the same year as Platoon. Gonzo journalism road trip between James Woods and James Belushi improvising their way through a low budget masterpiece as military warfare in El Salvador rises to a murderous tale of a totalitarian America trying to control the events in the country with lies. Watch the documentary on the DVD as it shows the respect Stone and Woods had for each other after making this film. An unrivaled 9.2423623612321321312/10

Jim Jarmusch has picked two of the most righteous pious actors in the history of acting to star in the two lead roles of that film. Could'nt be arsed watching two actors performing or looking like religious deities for that amount of time. Watched the Story of Yonosuke - at times can feel a bit Forrest Gump and made me cringe in the sentimentality of it all but done with a japanese slow offbeat biting description of turning into adulthood in late 80s Japan. Loved the samba, the lead character makes me want to adore food (which I do), he just eats and eats takes his time, exists then eats some more. Japanese directors like Akira Kurosawa fill their film with the consumptuon of food all the time. Really lets you concentrate on the character doesn't it?

Strangers by the lake - pure homo erotica in your face. If Haneke ever did dogging by the lake this is it. See it just for the wonderful still camera shots of the lake. Anyone who's been to the Alps or a lake in southern France will know the colours of the sky, lake and land.

I sawed this too recently. The music didn't stand out at all, but the scenes with the drawbridge and the focus of the camera on the truck wheels were very tense. Standout performance is the french fella, he has that superior air nailed down. The scene with the tree was also very good, pure cinema tension. Still haven't seen the original Wages of Fear but will do.

Haneke's Amour The body gets older whilst the mind will perish. One to watch again and again just to figure out if the husband was controlling like a mean bastard or was in love with her and liberating? Great film, also got the marvellous Isabelle Huppert in it in a very subdued role normally she comes on like some deranged intellectual toffee nosed nympho.

The Decline of the American Empire (watched on VHS for colour bleed and warped sound effect - oh yeah). Must see Canadian middle class dichotomy of attitudes towards life, sex, sexuality, intelligence and each other. From 1986 now onto the sequel called The Barbarian Invasion I believe.

On the hunt for contemporary scifi, found a film called TiMER. A film about a new device that attached to your brachical vein and countsdown to when you meet your one true love. Very attractive lead woman, but dialogue so cliched and the characters could have been created by Ronny Cox in the OCP boardroom. Still the US can produce some great scifi and this had hints of belief in innate good in people.

The East - what about the sharing scene with the food? It was like some Willy Wonka communist propaganda. You survive with others or not at all. The relationship with the main woman and her husband was as bleak and empty as Cypher's various personas. Dear Wendy - Bill Pullman reigns in on some american kids dreams. Pacifism exists as a warm gun. See this film please, wonderful undercurrent of alienation and inability to form meaningful relationships.

I thought the racist comments were made in a sarcastic manner highlighting how his superiors were treating the FBI agent? The sex with strippers was also showing he was a single man unable to really have any meaningful relationships as he was devoted to his job? Context and all that.
