You may be confused because there are two voting groups.

 

Group 1 votes for the track to which they truly enjoyed listening.

 

Group 2 votes for the track that, while not initially appealing (or otherwise), is what they believe to be the most "creative" or adventurous in its use or disuse of the supplied material, in the techniques employed and the general I-wasn't-expecting-that factor that the piece elicits.

 

Neither group is wrong, and both are easily related, but I think we can attribute your unpleasant surprise to this alone.
