why are video games called video games?

Video is the technology of electronically capturing, recording, processing, storing, transmitting, and reconstructing a sequence of still images representing scenes in motion.

this article/interview suggests one origin, although like most great things, the origin seems to be shrouded in myth.

 

I know that Ralph Baer called his "Brown Box" project a "TV Game," and I wonder if he might have slided soon after to calling it a "video game" ...

 

I'm curious about the origin of this term too, if anyone finds any other resources.

It was supposed to be called tv games but the guy who coined the phrase turned out to be a pedophile so they quickly went with the next best idea, video games.
