Amon had nothing to do with the Infamous soundtrack. Really poor reporting by Wired.

the score was composed by Amon Tobin and others from Sony.

really really poor reporting by Joyrex. :P

No. Show me where it says Amon is credited as to contributing to the score. I think Wired misconstrued what the guy they interviewed and thought that Amon was helping on the soundtrack, whereas I got the impression that they were inspired by his music.

Nevermind, I retract my statement. I was dead wrong:

Although, he's only credited with mixing from the looks of things...

the Splinter Cell soundtrack sounded like really watered down Amon Tobin trying to be emulative of the popular orchestral sound in videogame scores these days.

I'd be way more interested if instead made a score that was like Foley Room (the music where he doesnt try to water himself down)

how was it watered down? if anything it was just as focused as his other efforts, collaborative work with multiple musicians instead of purely being sample based. The Lighthouse....Sosho Stealth....how can you not LOVE those tracks?

I just assumed it was sample based, i didn't realize it wasn't (sounds pretty much the same as his earlier sample based jazzy break cutups) . anyways i think i was really dissapointed by it because it's Amon Tobin's only surround sound 5.1 music release and the 5.1 mix in it is very very underwhelming, it might as well be stereo. i think im just pissed because Foley Room wasn't released in 5.1 and Splinter Cell was

i'll take a wild guess here but you haven't really bothered to listen to any of our physical releases have you? you seem like the type who would judge someone's life work based on 30 second bleep samples.

Look at this from my perspective, when i bought the splinter cell soundtrack i was trying to track down every surround sound / 5.1 'electronic' music releases that was out there (very few have been made Tipper, BT, Amon Tobin, Plaid...)

The Splintercell soundtrack frankly sounds like the surround mix/5.1 spread was not done by Amon Tobin, it is very uncreative and makes very little use of all 4 channels. and frankly if you play a lot of videogames like splintercell maybe its hard for you to tell how similar in style it's trying to be to a lot of existing videogames, i was expecting something a little more unconventional for a score kind of like what Bogdan Raczinski did for that xbox live shooter game, but i'll admit if the goal of Splintercell is was to blend into the background it does a great job.

be careful *if* letting Benboi use your account, joyrex watches out for that shit really closely....

I don't get all the love for The Foley Room...

i think just for the sound design alone it is an amazing accomplishment

I've been saying it "Uh-Mahn" all these years.

Me too, I think we're in the right though

By the very nature of it, any artist making something like a videogame soundtrack is going to have it dismissed as not being a true representation of his work... I thought it was pretty decent, even though I never actually played, saw, or gave 2 shits about the game. Go back in time and release the same music without the game, give it a tobin-y sounding title like turbospludge or something and I bet it'd magically rate up there with the rest of his work

my criticisms of it were mainly towards it being an undwhelming 5.1 DVD release. If it was only released on CD and this is the first version i herd i would probably have a much more favorable opinion of the album.

i'd like to think so, but this guy worked on a video game score with him, so i would hope he wasn't mispronouncing it to his face on a regular basis.
