I don't play cds as much but the vast majority of my vinyl is without a digi-dupe, so I am in constant rotation of my wax.

I also still buy and play my tapes as much as possible. My last tape purchase was about 2 weeks ago (4 Depeche Mode tapes on ebay).

My mp3 player is fucked up and I got a job which has catalyzed a need to fill the gaps in my physical collection. I listen to CD's in the car, at work, at friends houses, in headphones, etc but mostly listen to my digital collection while at da crib.

if i buy a cd, i rip it right away then put the cd in my car, and use it until it gets so scratched i have to burn a new copy. I throw all the art and packaging/casing away and keep the pics the i download from the artists website in the folder with the music files.

 

if i had an ipod i could hook that to the aux input in my car and would end up throwing away all cds, because the less clutter the better.

 

Edit: Album artwork still means a lot to me though! PDf files and jpgs that artists release with albums these days are great!

 

I do agree though that there is a sadness in me due to missing browsing through indie record stores and finding stuff i never wouldve heard of. Also though records have never been my thing I love record artwork all big and cool to look at.

 

2nd edit: i forgot about how awesome listening to my cd player on the bus was last fall when i first moved to c.hill and was using the free buses all the time. ONly in the morns, i chatterbugged it up in the afternoon, but in the morning it was a fantastic way to start the day. Staring out the window listening to whatev, seeing people, business, etc. So i guess cds are still vaugley important to me. BUt not much. They are almost always burned, from rips or d/ls. And if i owned an mp3 player this would not be the case.

I buy CDs then rip them straight away so I can put them on my mp3 player, which I always have with me if I go out.

 

When I want to listen to an album at home, I'll put the CD on.

 

Although it annoys me how sometimes I'll just select random tracks in my mp3 library, because it's easy, rather than listen to an album all the way through. It feels like I'm flicking through a magazine instead of improving myself by reading a novel (if that makes sense).

 

None of my records are ripped to mp3, so I always listen to vinyl in its physical form.

honestly i've only bought about 10 cds in the past 3 years since the record exchange in greensboro closed.

 

BUt certain albums i buy for the best quality cuz you cant always find 320k mp3s online and certain music i really desire to listen to high quality, others isn't a huge deal.

main reason? quality. if i let someone hear my cdplayer, they usually say "wow, that's good quality!"

 

there's lots of technological progression, wich is good, but because of that people tend to settle for less quality these days

When i buy a CD i defrag my computer. Then delete all unnecessary files on the hard disc. Sometimes i defrag it and don't like the results so i just delete every file on the hard drive until i have maximum capacity like it was just bought from the shop. And I DO own an mp3 player.

It's crazy times in a crazy world.
