AT&T bans 4chan

it's just one more red brick in the Great Wall of Chinamerica that is inevitably rising before our eyes.

This is not inevitable. The only reason it will be allowed to happen is if we decide we're not going to do anything about it.

There's that Alice Walker saying; "The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don't have any."

switching ISPs is the most proper response, but it's not like there are a lot of broadband choices in the US these days. i hope anonymous comes up with a delightful and tasty response; i hope this blows up in AT&T's face. i don't visit 4chan at all, but it's only a few degrees away from watmm in terms of being "socially unacceptable." today 4chan, tomorrow the watmm.

They've already provided alternative links for people to access anyway.

Definately wrong, I occasionally peruse 4chan for funny pictures and the like although its been unamusing with over milked memes for quite a while now.

I've seen quite a bit of CP on there though, although it is removed pretty quickly its still about on there

"Within hours, the site’s members had begun their attacks on AT&T, including the creation of a fake rumor about the death of AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson with the intent to lower AT&T’s stock price.¸"

LOL

Anyway they have unblocked it, so they say. But DDOS attack are still happening... coincidently :stuart:

Next time watmm shall expect a better humanistic quality to something that somebody classifies as a "four chan". You mean it classifies when it talks about commercialistic-based music that has only existed for the past 50 years (and restricted to a number of people) as opposed to the centuries human civilisations has asked themselves questions of much higher value?

kids these days...

seems like first the claims about the ddos attacks have to be verified. if that were the reason, and it were verified, they are a private business and they have a right to do what they need to, if it is affecting their operation and service. if they are just saying that, then that is something else, but i think it is probably both. there probably were ddos attacks linked to ips of that board, and maybe they came right from that domain how do i know, but i'm sure they also took other factors into consideration when they made the decision, which is i guess where the rub is.

here is what i think will happen in the future. i think there will be clean providers. they will provide filtered access, and people who want that will be who uses their service. they will be able to use the internet with less of a chance of stumbling on a blowjob or beheading, and can just use it for math homework or whatever. people who don't want that, well i imagine these isps also figure they can clean their customer base at the same time. of course there are normal, stable people who also want a free internet, who would rather be able to see everything as it is and for those people, well like someone says no one owns all the computers, so aside from a legislative act (and probably not even then) i don't see how you can stop some form of free internet, even if it got horribly fragmented or segragated at some point in the future it will still exist.

4chan had been under DDoS for some time prior to this, according to reports on the net.

I do not agree with net neutrality at all, however, I don't see a problem with a business acting to protect their investments.

I once drank a Wildcat, it's a bad beer. But I was with a couple of trailer trash-type guys, that was expected!

Drink some Labatt Blue if you want to stay at that level.

hmm I think Labatt 50 doesn't exist outside Québec, it's sold as "Labatt Canadian Ale".

i checked the listings for the ontario liquor stores, and it says they stock it. my old man is in ontario right now, and he's driving through quebec to get back to NS, so i asked him to pick up a 24 of labatt 50 for my homecoming BBQ. cant wait, haven't had this beer in years now.

Yeah I'm always mixing it up with Molson Canadian. That's really almost impossible to find in Québec. In fact you probably get punched if somebody see you drinking that ;)

Labatt 50? You can (or could, maybe it's changed) get that in ALberta, I remember drinking that shite back in high school.

Labatt Wildcat had a song made about it. PLus it's "forte". Fuck a bunch of Labatt 50 and get some wildcat. or some 'sner, in a stubby if possible.
