Taskbar

How do you have your taskbar? I've always had mine sat at the bottom of my screen, but I'm wondering what would be the pro's and con's of a change.

It's always seemed to me like a rather silly thing to have your Windows taskbar in another place, but maybe it just makes more sense in some situations.

Maybe I won't even move it, but set it to 'auto-hide', maximising screen space.

In windows 7 I have all my icons that would otherwise be on my desktop on my taskbar and have it at the bottom constantly showing. With Icons set to small and the taskbar set to small. Works really well.

I just have it where it normally is, on the bottom, with all my most commonly used programs and folders organized neatly in quick launch. Never been a fan of these task bar replacements as it's just another program eating away at resources. A lot of people like to have the tasbar at the side, as you usually need to utilise vertical space more than horizontal. But personally I just think it looks weird.

I have mine at the top. Makes a bit more sense to me. I'd put it on the side if it didn't get really wide and ugly.

Why does windows 7 come with 2 taskbars. The permanent one and that really annoying on that appears when you hover over the top of your screen.

I dont need two, Ive plenty of icons around the place.

I have Win7 and don't get anything when I hover over the top of my screen? Perhaps you have something installed?

he's probably talking about the sidebar? it's pretty useless and can be disabled in the task manager.

This only really popped into my head recently because the computers I use for graphic applications at work have taskbars that minimise. It's pretty useful when you're doing designy stuff, but I think I'm going to try it out at home for a while too.

I'm always closing the icons in the bottom right corner, although I do have to check my internet connection more often than I would like because of this shitty provider (TalkTalk), but I rarely use anything from the start-menu, so I think it could work well.

Here goes.
