headphase is lackluster at best. GENERICA. publicly accessible.

it lacks the dark undertones, story like structuring, constantly changing samples, subliminals, FEELING that music has and geo have.

its flat, feels unfinished, empty and just makes me mad every time i get to track 9. thats as far as i can go. it feels so meh, lacking in any depth.

i tried since its release to like this record and its just void of BoC psychetude. cept for oscar see through red eye. i like that one....but it feels like it was an edit from geo as it didnt quite cut it, but good enough not to kill altogether, hence resurrected for headdump.

macquerie ridge and leftside drive are awes too...BUT one being a jap release only and the other EP redemption.

i fear BoC have strayed from their heavy sample based, aged music vibe, due to costs of samples and not wanting to be pigeon holed to a sound....not for the better.

i could listen to million versions of hi scores [album]. that is vibe incarnate. that shorty has is all.

headpoop might be tits for some as it was their introduction to the band, but let the other albums do their thing to your ears. those shitz are just too good. i cant get all burnt on these guys....go off for bit and drop music is math, everything you do, pete standing, telephasic, OLSON and just lose it again. those tunes are so tight. but headflunk just sets me off. i think its lack of vibe just reminds me of all the net-label poop out there. that album is unfinished at best.

sorry...this is not meant to sway any opins or upset. its just my POV and ive felt this way since it first penetrated my ear holes. i heard the oscar see pre-release...and hoped for an album that would liken a nuclear ear-bomb. but instead got q-tips. i could keep on, but that starts becoming redundant.

i know im prob in the minority, but thats just how the marble rolls.

gimme a platter of spiro vibe laced with otv1-b16, current web page loop infused with lighthouse party track 7. hell i forgot chinook

id freakin dipe my pants in a heartbeat.

those examples are deeper than the illum trilo.

again sorry if i offended anyone. not meant to, just a pov.

Yikes, I would STRONGLY disagree. TCH does something to me no other album will ever do (I mean so does Geogaddi but I mean I hold TCH just RIGHT below Geo).

It's so good. Y'all are crazy.

It's all subjective and down to personal opinion, and what an individual release means to an individual person.

My opinion, and i've said it before, is that Campfire is a good album but not as good as Music or anywhere near as good as Geogaddi (my best album of all time).

Whereas Geo was intelligent, scary, beautiful and life changing in equal measures, i found Campfire to be repetetive, bland and almost commercial. Were they reaching for a new audience, we'll know if the next release is more of the same.

Hopefully they'll re-invent themselves again, or at worst, distort the melodies enough to make my ears hurt, like MBV did on Isn't Anything and Loveless.

Its very much less clean acid and more joints and cowboy hats. It has a reely feely vibe that taps tape. Still disagree with you on this blum's merits (as you know already). It is kind of flat, but I can visualize TCH spooling into a movie projector for the same reason, which is radical. I hate touching the waxy finish on the LP cover though, I wish they had made it a fadey B-Grade deteriorate exterior stock.

Campfire Headphase always sounded to me like a diluted BoC. It has some good tracks on but there is no upping of the ante.

It's just a nice album with nice tunes on, and guess thats just hunky dory (perhaps they got some nice green lol).

I bet you don't want the 4th album to sound like it though?

It's funny. I just got home from work & my wife was sitting in the garden with Campfire Headphase playing on the hi-fi. I was thinking how brilliant it was & came on here to post how much I was enjoying. first thing I saw? This thread saying how pants it is!! Horses for courses i guess. I love it it makes me think how badly I would love some new BoC material.

Anyway, '84 Pontiac Dream and Slow This Bird Down are my favourites from this one, Sherbert Head and Ataronchronon come 2nd.

Do I have a bogus copy of that P or is that the breakbeat just mixed super low? Never got into that one because of it.

Sometimes I think this is my favorite BoC album, and it gets me most excited for what might come next. They refined their sound pretty damn well on this album. I don't think it's the sound of BoC losing their edge at all. But on the other hand, I'm getting pretty sick of the "lo-fi/retro to evoke nostalgia" bullshit. It really lost its effectiveness when everyone started doing it. It seems like everybody wants to look backwards instead of forwards, to new, better things. I'm also getting really sick of nostalgia in general, and I think people should stop trying to make music to sound like things that remind them of their childhood, like being a little kid was really that great anyway. Being in your 20's is clearly much better, people. Get with the fucking program.

A new album from them would be a nice fresh start, since their three so far are all pretty different and great in their own ways.

prob a bad mix H. keep in mind its old man. its really washy, too much reverb. but for me...its about what it is. you can hear the soul in it. it swells in your chest. synths dancing around everywhere.

sex for the ear-bones.

all the old stuff is of varying quality, as im sure the majority of it isnt mastered.

diff freqs automatically sit together better than others.

boc doesnt make me think of my childhood.

i just like what they do. its its own thing. very visual music. and no one else did it quite like them or has done it like them since.

but yes....lots of copycats out there, that kinda tainted the vibe.

the reason headphase sets me off is, it just sounds like it was done half-heartedly. it comes off flat. they used to have such intricate samples and beats.

i mean strip away all the synths from pete standing alone or orange romeda and you have some sick beats going on there. CHINOOK. and that break towards the end of pete standing is SICK.

there are so many subtle shifts in the different kick drums it keeps the ears interested. so much going on. headfaze just doesnt have that.

its not horrible....it just doesnt hold my attention, or pull me in.

hmmm sounds like shit....im sorry. it fucking blows me away. has a raw feeling, not over processed like a certain 'phase'.

open the light 'sho' is alright. that shits deep. but i also luvs red moss. awesome percs. red moss has what headphase lacks. the track kinda has an uneasy feeling for me. something really cool about that track. whitewater, oirectine, june 9th, hi scores, nlogax, m9, orange romeda....thats all vibe

massively agree with everything phaelam said

sounds awful

but if you like campfire headphase I can only imagine you like the other albums for the wrong reason

obviously I must be wrong but

the other albums are so amazing

and this one's lame, soft, commercial, guitary and devoid of edge

mhtrtc and geogaddi are darker and scarier and a billion times better

i personally pretend headphase didn't happen

hahaha

Do you listen to early 70's reggae music from Jamaica?
