so i've gained an interest in bikes since my license was suspended, and i decided to get a new one. riding this bike is like getting propelled around by magic. i was more or less keeping up with cars on my way to work with my raleigh road bike which must be from the 70s. on my friend's bianchi i was passing cars. on this it's effortless to ride in traffic. i love it.

yeah. you have to be more careful because they're easier to damage but around here i definitely want the speed. and there's barely a blade of grass in my town anyway, let alone any trails lol.

the mexicans do love this bike. the dominicans and columbians too. basically everyone in west new york.

speaking of which, i'm going to need a better chain.

congrats! i purchased last week an early 80s gitane grantour which i intend to restore but is in perfect functional state at the moment. keep it up, find cheap used bikes and splurge!

I want to start riding a bike again for getting around and keeping fit... I've no idea what to get though. Any suggestions for a bike idiot like me?

go to your local bike shop, try 3 or 4 bikes, buy the one that feels right.

in general, avoid anything with rear suspension.

bikes rule. congrats :)

do you have clipless pedals?

i got platform pedals in case i need to bail out on short notice. with as much traffic as i ride in i want to be ready for anything. it's probably not going to make much difference though.

these are the ones

It's no Porsche

Bikes are way more fun than Porsches. Imagine all that attention you'd get riding around in one of those shiny money worshipper mobiles? Ach, horrible.

Nice. I have been wanting to get another road bike for a while (when I was younger I had a 10 and/or 12 speed). My current bike is a MTB and I'm really tired of riding it with all the hills around here. Even on flat roads it's not very efficient. I never go to the mountains so WTF? I'll probably get something used this summer, but need to make space for it first. Gotta ditch my ex girl's hybrid bike which was mine before I got the MTB.

Plus I want to do more than just commute with it...I'd like to go on longer weekend rides and what not. I do it on the MTB once in a while but it's just a drag, I think I'd go a lot more if I had an efficient bike.

I want to be propelled around by magic.

nice bike taxman. I miss the days I used to ride everywhere! shitty part is getting hit by cars. my old daily commute got me hit twice... second one broke my helmet in half + major concussion, whiplash, broke all my toes, tore ligaments in knees and ankles. back and neck are permanently damaged. helmet saved my life for sure.

WEAR A HELMET. seriously. Expect that you will be hit or run off the road into the curb/ditch at least once every few years. sounds scary but you'll likely be fine if you ride with a helmet.

I work in the rehab business and I have quite a few clients that were hit whilst riding on city streets and now have permanent brain damage b/c they weren't wearing helmets. buy a sweet looking pro helmet so you don't feel like a douche.
