Rally to restore sanity

Regular viewers of The Daily Show know that John's been building up to his big announcement, The Rally to Restore Sanity held at the Washington mall. Encouraged to bring signs that read things like "I disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you're not Hilter", "I'm not afraid of immigrants or gays... but I am afraid of spiders" and "legalize pot". Of coarse Stephen Colbert will have his 'counter rally' Keep Fear Alive. This is for all the supposed 70-80 percent of moderates in this country, the regular Joe, a rally for the rest of us that aren't Glen Beck. I know I'd love to go!

i thought he was funnier when he had balls to go after both sides, but ever since he became an obama loyalist he focuses mostly on republicans.

I'd rather watch fox news if i wanted to see glenn beck or bill oreily acting like a dickhead

edit: i remember when he was on when Clinton was in office and he was very hard on him, didn't hesitate to make a joke at every opportunity. He seems to hold back very much about Obama

John Stewart isn't, and never was, particularly funny.

It all feels so scripted. I bet he couldn't make you laugh off-the-cuff.

I disagree. I think he makes fun of the Democrats very frequently.

I can't believe all the jon stewart hate in here. I can only chalk it up to bigotry toward his scottish heritage. he's really quick on his feet.

well here is where i'm coming from. At one point in time, his show was the only bastion on american television were you could a 30 minute block of time showing how bad of a job our president and government were doing. For the last 2 years he has most definitely been holding back on projecting the same type of criticism towards obama. There have been moments where he hasn't held back, but those were fleeting. The guy has totally lost whatever edge he used to have.

i want to attend this, but just because of colbert.

jon stewart is a prick. i've lost a huge amount of respect for him since he compared those who question what happened on 9/11 to those who call obama a fascist/socialist. i get it, it's much easier to simply call people "conspiracy nuts" rather than questioning the world around you and these "conspiracy nuts" are totally comprable to uneducated ramblings that essentially stem from the fact that it isn't acceptable to call obama a nigger, so socialist will just have to do. argh.

if you've been watching the show, you would realise that they've been lambasting the dems for everything from their general uselessness to the apparently deliberate attempts at not passing anything that they stumped for before the obama election.

you think so? it seems like he mentions that the democrats are useless / don't get anything done on just about every show. lots of "old obama / new obama" contradictory video clips, too.

To say he doesn't "attack" both sides is complete bullshit. You probably don't want the show though. Don't forget that it's comedy show, by the way. Quit making it so personal.

And now I understand the amount of hate Stewart is getting in this thread...

I'll probably go to this since I live about 30 miles away. Could be a lot of fun.

i still watch his show every night, i guess i got into him around the 2004 elections and i've noticed him loose steam over the years. my perception i'm sure is skewed. he's even addressed this complaint of mine on his show, he did a whole musical gospel number about it. he said his intention was never to be edgey and that he hasn't lost his edge because he never had one.

he does show video clips of that true, but i guess i want to see it like weekly, he's done it about 7-8 times in the first 2 years of his presidency. Bush of course made it a lot easier to make him look like an ass by editing his speeches, you really didn't have to do any editing most of the time.

edit: in other words, i will never be pleased

i like colbert more, but the daily show is probably the best political commentary you will find on tv... at least brings up points that seem most logical. PBS is probably the best source, but tv news in general is a big
