another exceptional one is the leads trey plays after 6:02 in this video, though since it's so protracted i guess you have to call it a solo:

i'm a sucker for melodies, even over complex beats. i can't say there is an ultimate melody for me but one that always pops into my head is the melody at the end of "my exploding psychology" by sp

Imagine having this stuck in your head for 2 1/2 years.

Same with this piece. Any of the melodic themes and their permutations will do.

The cadence in the middle makes me want to cry.

Anyways, I could go on and on so I'll just list a few:

Anything by Rossini - The motherfucker bleeds melody. (The Barber of Seville, The Thieving Magpie, etc...)

The Bad Plus - 'Velouria' It's not their song but they own it in a way that brings out the best in that melody in a way that The Pixies never will.

George Gershwin - 'Rhapsody In Blue'

Squarepusher - 'Song: Our Underwater Torch'. This actually reminds me very much of that Bach piece I just posted.

King Crimson - 'Moonchild'

Ornette Coleman - 'Lonely Woman'

No doubt, this the most beautiful melody i've ever heard.

you are right. it's probably the only track on that album i consistently revisit. FUSE enjoys very loud volumes too.

but as for my off-the-cuff response, theme from ernest borgnine
