The BASEBALL Thread

So.. with the baseball season just around the corner, I decided that if i can watch 82+ Hockey games a season Ill try and rise up the challenge and become a baseball fan this year as well to have somthing to watch when the NHL season finishes in a few months.

Funny enough ive been to a MLB game in 2001 in Arizona when the Diamondbacks played the Dodgers. it was a fantastic experience, but never really got too deep into it after, I just kept my attention 100% on the Penguins instead.

Now not knowing much at all about Teams, Players, Statistics Ect; I want some help choosing the team I will route for in the 2011 season.

only thing i want is for the Team i'll follow is..

1.for it to be in the Eastern Time zone so I don't have to stay up till 4am to watch the games..if its anything like the NHL the Atlantic Division only plays the Pacific Teams maybe 3 times a season..the odd Away game I can do..

2.Not the Red Sox or the Yankees

3.Maybe a team who's the underdogs but still have potential to get into the play-offs ect; and just because im a Penguins fan, i know somewhat about the Pirates being shit (too much for Pittsburgh to have 3 good professional teams ikr)

Considering your requirements, i'd maybe pick the tampa bay devil rays, especially since pulling for them is pulling against boston and ny. Even then they're not really heavy underdogs anymore, but it is a pretty enjoyable team to pull for. Otherwise, the phillies would be feasible.

Good luck keeping up with the long season; i used to be and still am a baseball fan but the season can be exhausting at times.

hmm Phillis might be good. im going to watch the entire ESPN 30 for 30 tomorrow, then have a look on wiki then decide.

also this thread can be used for (and urge) the HC baseball fans to throw around some punches, stats, banter, news ect; with eachother

the devil rays lost half their team, they will suck this year. Boston bought a lot of guys in the offseason and are probably the favorites on paper. the phillies top 3 pitchers are pretty sick.

in short...

go yanks.

This is the first spring season that I haven't followed at all in about 6 years, so I don't really know a lot of stats right now. I'm a Mets fan, but have been very embarrassed to call myself one since the end of the 2007 season. and I see that they're still an embarrassment.

I'd say go for the Phillies or Braves. I do know that the Phills have a killer starting pitchers and the Braves have been hungry for quite sometime and has made some pretty helpful acquisitions in the off season to make them a competative this season... the Mets will come in second to last again.

you guys have it rough asym

this may be true but by the grace of the almighty, the giants won their series with their extremely old and admittedly somewhat mediocre team so anything's possible
