What are these fucking weird in-wall speaker ports?

yo dudes—this is going to be like, a two-reply thread, unless it turns into a rolling dickspin gif, but wondering if you guys can help.

so my girlfriend just moved into a sweet 1BR in west new york, and in the process of setting up her entertainment system, realized her in-wall speakers have this A/V wallplate with weird, almost-RCA-but-not-RCA audio inputs.

do you guys have any idea what type of wire i'd need to connect her AV receiver (which she just bought) to the in-wall speakers? is it banana connectors or something?

Yeah, those are banana plugs - just get the male tips that go onto your bare speaker wire, and you'll be set. Nice that those are there, as then you don't have to run speaker wire around baseboards or under carpets for your surrounds.

sweet, thanks dudes! now i need to fucking figure out why there isn't an in-wall hdmi port—i'm gonna have a janky-ass 50-foot wire running around the perimeter of the apartment and up the wall to the projector. fffffffffffuuuuuuuuu

SIDENOTE: on the topic of fancy home theater shit:

super-saiyan sale on some criterion blu-rays at amazon.com! example

and if you can stomach die hard 2 and 4, check this badass shit out.

If you can't run the cable yourself (I think you said it was an apartment), and using a 50' HDMI is too expensive or impractical for you, look into wireless HDMI and see if that's affordable for you instead.

ah, indeed, running the cable myself is not an option. but i already ordered a 50' HDMI cable—it was only around $20 and carries a 1080p signal well. but goddammit...wireless HDMI? why didn't i wait to research?

20USD is not bad at all for a 50' cable - I just hope it's good enough quality (I've bought some cheap HDMI that were defective - very frustrating troubleshooting why you're not getting a single when you should be).

Plus, Wireless HDMI is still expensive, so don't feel bad about spending 20USD just yet.
