Why it matters: OpenAI is looking to convince skeptics that it is taking sufficient steps to ensure its models are safe as it works toward its goal of super intelligence.

OpenAI appointing a former NSA official to its board. Dude was a higher-up at the National Security Association (which is part of American military and is not a civilian branch of our government), those same cunts who were doing the spying on American communications that Edward Snowden exposed, those metadata bastards (the fuckers!) - sort of makes me think, especially given that example of the IDF using an automated targeted system that was based on 'AI' in Gaza, that all of this bullshit is just going to be a way for different sectors in the military, finance, etc. to optimize and become more efficient somehow, gain greater control over resources and/or people, with some consumer applications thrown in on the side for window dressing.

this shit is straight out of an ep of Black Mirror:

maybe they should watch that episode before they go through with this nonsense.

people die. it's all part of the human experience. clinging onto what is no longer there is bound to create more heart ache and suffering. people wanting to live forever are delusional.

I've already encountered someone who wanted help with training a neural network on texts with their ex so they could still talk to them.

What kind of jobs or careers would be immune from automation in the near and distant future?

Hopefully jobs centered around human interaction, although what I said above makes me concerned even about that.
