According to Japan's imperial calendar it's still the year Heisei 31 I think (since 1988), but it's soon to be the first year of Reiwa, under the new emperor Naruhito.IIRC the Emperor has no actual political authority, but is instated as a purely symbolic figure. This practice has been official since 1868.Anyway, just a bit of news. Wasn't sure what thread to post this in, so I decided to just make it its own. chenGOD Posted April 9, 2019 Share Posted April 9, 2019 It could also mean “ordered peace”, which is IMO a more accurate interpretation. Reaction from Japanese (that I know) has been somewhat cold. Supposedly it’s from an old Japanese poem. The second character “Wa” is also the old name for Japan. So it’s intended to convey a sense of “Japaneseness”.
